suddenly noticed that the imacs on the mac online store are showing as being 'new'...did this slip under the radar and are these in fact the new imacs that i've been waiting for for so long with sandy bridge / thunderbolt? Would buying one now be a good time to buy one?

thanks, and sorry for the quite possibly dumb question! :)

sweet, well given that i turn 30 today, i think it's as good an excuse as any!

the only thing is, i want 8 gigs, or even 16...what's the best way of going about this. Ie what ram do i need exactly? Thanks :)

They take 4 sticks of DDR3-1333MHz SO-DIMM (short laptop type RAM) with a max of 16GB.

It's cheaper to buy with the stock amount of RAM and buy your own upgrade kit separately from a different retailer.

thanks brian. So if i were to buy with the stock 4 gigs, then add "Crucial 8GB 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) 204pin SODIMM"...i'd be sorted for 12 gigs, correct? or would i run into compatibility issues by mixing the ram? :)

I've never mixed brands of RAM, so I can't help there, but RAM is RAM, I don't see why it should be a problem as long as it's all at the same speed/spec.

I have mixed brands as pairs before, as long as you are no where near the manufacturing limits (ie pushing one chip faster than it should go) then you will be fine. The imac will not do this so you will have no worries.
