OK,

I recently had the need to use a floppy disc (you know those small square flat things :D ) and found that what I was trying to put onto the floppy was just a tiny bit to large for a standard size floppy.

Not wanting to use a CD in played about with the contents required for it to only remain fractionally to large. I then noticed that I have some floppy’s that have 2.0MB written on them which would have been ample capacity.

So I tried to put my files on only to find that it’s still too small. Check the size and low and behold its showing normal size  . So, i think maybe i need to format it, trying that I notice that there is only 1 option in the format capacity box of 1.44MB, standard size.

So simple question really of how do you actually have a floppy that is 2MB capacity?

This is only for future reference and the fact it has been bugging me now for a couple of days  and no-one seems to know so I thought I would bring it to you knowledgeable people to explain it to me.

Help please, my brain hurts :p

you can buy 2mb floppy disks im sure of it, as I used to have a few. Why don't you just use a USB pen drive or something, or perhaps an iPod or other mp3 player?

I thought the norm was....

IBM Formatted
Capacity:
Unformatted: 2.0MB
Formatted for IBM: 1.44MB
Re-Formats to Apple: 1.40MB

Note Unformatted capacity.

You can span more than one floppy for more space, but soo much easier with USB stuff.
