I have both PS3 & X360 premium.
PS3 to me is superior mature hardware and well built but obviously lacks enough VRam for decent AA so you get blur filters and low res upscaled games instead which look poor at times. Bluray is great for movies but now the PC bluray players are so cheap and the PC PQ is superior it loses that advantage as well. At least the PS3 has built in wifi & Hard Drive. However, games wise I think the PS3 is sadly lacking as you can count on 1 hand how many exclusive games it has which are truly worth buying the console for or are superior to the 360 version. Bluray drive is actually hindering most PS3 games at the moment as they have to have mandatory HD installs or mcuh slower loading times from BD as it has to be filled with duplicate or dummy data in order to fill the 50GB up.
360 has more VRam and Xboxlive is very well done. Biggest problem for me is the drive & fan noise are unbearable so hoping that NXE HD copy solves this otherwise unlikely to buy any games for it again. RROD is a big issue still for many due to fatal base design flaws. Most of the time I find that the 360 version of a game looks better graphically than the PS3 as it has more AA and a more natural look about it whereas my PS3 gfx look too shiny and unreal.
Both consoles have issues with vsync & or FPS drops when devs cut corners to save time/money and this should really be stamped out now by stricter quality control from MS/Sony as screen tearing on a large HDTV looks dreadful.
This xmas X360 will spank the PS3 as its so much cheaper so probably 2:1 will be the ratio. Most buyers look for VFM not a £300 black box which can be a total media hub as well.
I know when you spec a 360 premium to include the HD & Wifi its around the same price as a PS3 but MS are smart in knowing that not everyone wants or needs these features so can afford to sell a cheaper model in a time when this means more than anything.
I do not think Sony will ever see PS2 sales figures on the PS3 as the lack of VRam will hurt it more as time goes on. MS will have a 360 successor long before the PS4. If Sony were really clever they would just update the VRam on the PS3 to 1GB + more system Ram slash the price to £200 then it would be a stunning machine with a 10 year shelf life otherwise its in danger of becoming the new Dreamcast by next Xmas!!
