So how is the console war going?

Nanoman is right in saying that the memory in the PS3 isn't really that much of a liability. I still get surprised every now and then at what the consoles achieve in their games with such apparently low memory compared to typical PC gaming (my system has 4x1024mb for example, which is 16 -!- times the amount of random access memory in the PS3).

Consoles have very low overheads. The OS is more streamlined and there are few background applications.

im not sure why you keep insisting this! its bluray, they are all very much like for like. pc's, laptops, ps3, standalones...all of them.
Just because they ouput the same data does not mean they are all equal. On my setup the PS3 Bluray PQ looks inferior to my PC on the same HDTV both connected via HDMI 1:1 to different sockets. PS3 lacks detail and the colour is not as vibrant as my PC via an ATI 4870. PC you have a lot more control via PowerDVD and ATI drivers to get a better PQ.

PS3 needs GT5

i lol'd

PS3 doesnt need GT5 in the slightest

there are loads of great IP's that are PS exclusives
MGS
Uncharted
Motorstorm
Resistance
LBP

the list goes on

you cant justify a consoles success rate on one game

and more to the point - not a single person i know with a ps3, even likes GT!

tbh when ps3 gets GT i will then buy the console :) i was very tempted by MGS love the series but theres a possiblity that it might be appearing on the xbox so im holding out.

having said that my xbox just RROD yday :( so gotta get that repaired so im a console short. having said that PC is still my fav atm

I've had an xbox360 for two years and took the plunge and bought the ps3- i find both machines to be fantastic value. I will use the xbox for fps titles on the monitor and the ps3 for rpg's etc where i can relax on the sofa! im fortunate in having both consoles but if i was to decide between the two (having seen both now) it would be an extremely tough choice! im just grateful that we have some stunning looking games and can enjoy some really top games on both formats.

Will be interesting what happens this Xmas

I think its fair to say that apart from Japan (where its only just started selling in good numbers) the Xbox wont sell that much apart from any replacements and a small number of new users - the market is pretty saturated with happy customers

The wii and the PS3 inparticular have massive new IP out as mentioned, and imo the PS3 has the most to gain (not only because of its basic price but also because this Xmas is really the 1st big holiday where its had huge new games to attract sales) and with BR now having a lot of choice - 500-600 titles in the UK alone) and with 3 for 2, the cost is getting better , although Im first to admit the price has to come down a lot more to become a huge attraction

Its by no means a foregone conclusion - but should be interesting

The problem summed up in a nutshell is that even though PS3 build quality is great....you dont play the console...you play the games.

360 build quality is imo very poor (already had 2 crashes 1 on fallout 3 and 1 on fifa and my console is about 2 1/2 weeks old)
But when things work you dont notice the console - just the games. I also dont like what MS did with there no 3rd party peripheral support for the console and they're underhand method of trying to get you to buy their own HDMI cable...cheap tactics imo.

But easy enough to work-around and its the games which matter and 360 is winning this. (although the lead isnt as big as before)

It's a lot worse now than it was.

My launch console was pretty reasonable, but my new arcade is terrible. The HDD doesn't quite fit, the cables are terrible quality compared to the original ones. (e.g. my old box has a metal power connector, the new one is plastic.)

Well i dont know a great deal about the games out on ps3 and i onyl have a 360. But to me it seems PS3 is a lot more FPS orinentated. Something i only do on a PC. So really to me 360 has a far better line up.

Also seems as if every ps3 owner is always saying how good games are which ahvn't even come out yet. PS3 had a very bad year of games tbh.

That's about the only statement in this thread that has suprised me. I don't have a PS3 either, but thought the general view was that the 360 was 90% FPS and driving games.

From games that are out, off the top of my head, I can only think of Resistance that is an exclusive FPS to the PS3 - but like I said, I don't have a PS3 so could well be wrong.

IMO the PS3 has had a lineup of games just as impressive as that of the 360 this year... last year however was a completely different story :o

I had both but it was the ps3 that had to be sold as i never touched it.
It was almost as much disappointment as the psp.
Hope they both do well as we will get better games if they do :D

it should be. if you count elevated colour levels as a plus then fair enough but i dont - it isnt natural. I'd sooner get the display set up correctly and not mess with the source, at which point you'd find them virtually indentical.

Resistance, Killzone, Haze, SOCOM, then there was Unreal Tournament as a timed exclusive and the big E3 annoncement was MAG "Massive Action Game".

im proably just wrong then lol.

tbh i got bored of all the crap games comign out for all platforms so i stoped paying attenchen so it may have been last year i just remeber looking at games and never seeing anythuig good on PS3 and only ever seeing people claiming how good games were that wernt out lol.

you have definitely got something set up wrong Im afraid, the PS3 will undoubtedly make a br look as good as its going to - there is no question about that

Havnt posted much in this forum in a while, but im liking how relaxed it is now.

I think a factor of this is because of the Wii.
We do finally seem to be at the point now, even if just on this forum, where we realise that its not just about graphics anymore.
That fun can be had with the most simple of games now.

With the Wii leading the way, its pretty much become a case of Wii+another console. With the other console being the one that has the games that suit you the most.

And i think a lot of people have realised that here, that no one console is the 'best'. That its a case of picking whats best for YOU.

Good to see quite frankly.
