So how is the console war going?

I think everyone has settled into the position with their consoles, there's just nothing to argue about anymore.

Havnt posted much in this forum in a while, but im liking how relaxed it is now.

I think a factor of this is because of the Wii.
We do finally seem to be at the point now, even if just on this forum, where we realise that its not just about graphics anymore.
That fun can be had with the most simple of games now.

With the Wii leading the way, its pretty much become a case of Wii+another console. With the other console being the one that has the games that suit you the most.

And i think a lot of people have realised that here, that no one console is the 'best'. That its a case of picking whats best for YOU.

Good to see quite frankly.

I couldn't disagree more! I think very few people on here have a wii (or if they do they seem to keep very quiet about them, hardly any threads)

I think its just a matter of things settling down in a number of areas, a couple of people who were causing/continuing the arguments seem to have either left or calmed down. Plus I think theres a lot more people that have both consoles now.

I don't think it's that few people have them, just think the 'relaxed' factor comes in to it. Their sales are safe, and their games are not so much direct competitors with Sony or Microsoft, so there's probably less of a ****ing contest going on than there can be with the other two consoles. :)

Well I am happy with my choice (Xbox 360), so happy that I recently upgraded to an Elite ready for the upgrade on the 19th so I can load a few of my games onto the hard drive.

This should make the 360 nice and quiet!

having all 3 is the best way, loyalty to no-one and just enjoy the games. AT the moment the PS3 is getting all my attention with Motorstorm Pacific Rift and LBP, but i do have GHWT full band setup + RB2 (got on 360 due to Live and more friends/people using it) and then GOW2 over xmas

I'm going to buy PS3 games that can't be got on the 360 and everything else for my 360. Oo apart from some games that I feel has to be played on PC like Fallout 3. I may buy it soon because I've seen it £26.99 in a supermarket.

I'd agree with all those that said there has been a settling of opinion over the last year with regards to the 360/PS3.

It does niggle me that people use the term 'war', almost advocating that there can be only 1 winner, which is the worst outcome for all of us!

What has been clear to me is that
1. The 360 has been a better 'success' then most people thought it would
2. The PS3 has not been the all conquering console that the hype train suggested, which has been excellent for the consumer, as Sony are working hard to keep the momentum going.
3. Despite everyones 'its a gimmick' comments, the Wii continues to sell spectactularly well, and by any previously used 'measure' of a consoles success, it's still storming the market, we all think it doesn't have the substance to last the race, but unexpectedly it's not showing any real signs of falling over!

I also agree that owning more then 1 console is the best solution, which totally flies in the face of the 'war' analogy, and I think keeps the market in a healthy state of competitive flux.

I think it's more because 90% of Wii games are crap, mostly shovelware.

I did enjoy the other 10%, but that's as far as my Wii usage went. Now it just sits on the shelf under the TV. Waiting for it's second wind I'll wager.

I'd like to see what the Wiis sales would be like if all the non-gamers that wouldn't look twice at the PS3 or Xbox (i.e. the Wii Fit crowd) hadn't bought one.

Not half as healthy I'd wager. I still fail to see the Wii as a proper games console. Just a mass marketed gimmick box.

.

The PS3 isnt exactly doing badly - if the figures on p1 are correct considering how much of a leadtime the X360 had in release dates (approx 73% in 6 months to a year less)

Its also questionable whether the X360 will last anywhere as long on the shelves as the PS3, but only time will tell :)

Id also get a Wii because Mario Kart is still my most played game by far on any console.

Yeah, same here. That game is quality. By far the best racing game out there in my opinion. The game is just so much fun. Playing online is bundles off fun. I would rather have more games that have better gameplay, then better graphics. BTW, I love good graphics, but gameplay must come first. For graphics I have Crysis, and there is nothing out there close to that game. All Nintendo need to do is get more quality games like this made and they will come out on top for sure.

But at the moment they just have a handful of great games, the rest are average.

PS3 needs GT5, but some good exclusives are out this xmas.
The 360 has gears2 this xmas so thats good.

I know pc isn't a console but imo pc has the best lineup autumn/winter.

I would definitely disagree, nothing on PC that really interests me, but PS3 has Little Big Planet and Xbox360 has Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 which are both better (for me) than what PC is offering this Christmas.

yaeh id agree PC is fairly bland this christmas. Quite dissapointing. I cant remeber the last game on pc that got me playing for ages like the orginal mtw ,bf series up to bf2 etc. How sad :(

yeah bf2 was something i couldn't put down for a long time. Yet to find any orther games that can do that to me. Maybe im just growing out of them, or they are just getting worse...

I don't know why the pathetic bickering has stopped but I don't want to jinx it!

Bland for exclusives maybe, but don't forget quite a lot of the big console games this fall are also out on PC so for people who game mostly on PC they aren't gonna be left without games to play.

For me PC has Wrath of the Lich King out this week, which no console games are gonna contend with.

Anyhoo as for the console front, I much prefer my PS3 now as I'm sick to death of the god awful Dashboard and Xbox Guide (it's clunky and slow), of course this will change when NXE is out and I hope it's a lot better than the current offering.

I'm also currently having to use my PS3 to stream Xvid/Divx to my TV as I broke my HDMI cable (for my PC-TV connection) so in the mean time I'm finding myself more and more impressed with how well the PS3 plays back such files. Shame it can't do HD stuff though. :(

Edit: Also I swear my PS3 has gotten quieter the past few weeks, I couldn't hear the thing at all after having it on for 2 hours straight earlier streaming some AVI's.

A lot of games are, however the biggest games are undoubtedly Gears of War 2 and LittleBigPlanet and neither are on PC. Fable 2 isn't exactly a small game either.

I'd rate all 3 above an add-on pack for a game, but WoW has a lot of players.
