So how is the console war going?

I don't wanna have to reencode everything, but transcoding on the fly would be good, though Tversity was giving me "this data is corrupted" on my PS3 earlier when trying to stream a MKV. :(

Judging by how well Gears of War sold on PC I don't think many PC gamers are all that fussed.

Fable 2 isn't that good either I don't think, not as good as the first at least.

See, that's the thing, it's not really just an addon pack it's gonna change the entire game.

It's not some crappy addon pack like The Sims or a Command & Conquer campaign.

Ahha! I had that problem too, it's due to a rogue codec that tversity doesn't like, codec packs or just plain slightly out of date codecs can cause this. I fixed it by removing all my codecs and installing the essential ones one at a time, took about 10 mins to sort.

I didn't say the PS3 was not doing well :) I just offered my opinion on why I think the fanboy debates have petered out to a large degree...

I believe, initially, most of the debate was down to 'speculation' as the consoles wheren't out that long and sales where up and down more often then a yo-yo, with the new boy PS3 obviously gathering some substantial momentum at one time, manufacturers where jostling for position, there was a lot of fuel to fan the flames!

But, here we are, a bit further into the consoles lives, things seem to have settled down quite nicely, and it's more apparant then ever that things are much more even. Both consoles show no signs of relenting, all initial momentum of both consoles has largely subsided, and people are voting with their wallets, the consoles do seem to have placed themselves at the correct price levels for sustained futures, all the fuel for the fanboys has now all but evaporated..

I guess, like you say, time will tell, and next year things may be different, but you have to be incredibly brave to even remotely try and predict the future of the PS3 and 360, when all the evidence/hindsight has shown that there is no underlying magic strategy that MS or Sony have that will 'win the day'.. no amount of looking at history or initial trends can give you the slightest amount of certainty as to what will happen 12 months down the line..

360 - 22
PS3 - 8
Wii - 5

Enjoy them all but there's something about the 360 I enjoy more. Last gen I definitely had a PS2 fetish and the XBox was definitely second fiddle (PS2 - 36 games, XBox 11). I think Sony are almost another Sega...have a theoretical lead and then turn that on it's head with a sub-par experience compared to the competition.

And this is why comparing Wii sales to PS3 / Xbox sales is pointless

the Wii is being targeted at ( and crucially being received by) a much wider demographic than the other traditional consoles. Mums / dads / teenagers kids and even grandparents are enjoying the wii.

Will your grandad enjoy playing wii fit or wii sports ? almost certaintly (my grandad did !) will they enjoy playing Resistance 2 ? not likely !

For me PC has Wrath of the Lich King out this week, which no console games are gonna contend with.

Anyhoo as for the console front, I much prefer my PS3 now as I'm sick to death of the god awful Dashboard and Xbox Guide (it's clunky and slow), of course this will change when NXE is out and I hope it's a lot better than the current offering.

I'm also currently having to use my PS3 to stream Xvid/Divx to my TV as I broke my HDMI cable (for my PC-TV connection) so in the mean time I'm finding myself more and more impressed with how well the PS3 plays back such files. Shame it can't do HD stuff though. :(

Edit: Also I swear my PS3 has gotten quieter the past few weeks, I couldn't hear the thing at all after having it on for 2 hours straight earlier streaming some AVI's.

what big consol gamse are theese? far cry 2? fall out 3? Sorry i dont class theeses to have much wow factor tbh. Its just more of the same.
 
only mass effect would i class as having any wow factor tbh. Though not played dead space, left for dead is just css killing zombies. Its fun but its not OMG WOW.

I don't quite see it like that, the PS3 is still extremely good, it's still got free online, and even though I shudder at the thought of it, Home is almost here...

The Party mode is about the only killer feature of the NXE, and although the HDD install benefits most 360 owners, it's not a feature up over the PS3..
 
If the 360 launched at this price with this NXE, the other 2 consoles wouldn't stand a chance, they would have shifted billions of the thing by now.

But anyway, at this price point, for £150 you can get everything including a wireless pad, mic and HD with GAMES ! It beats the Wii in terms of price and it's mucho cheaper than the PS3. I can see that it will be a good christmas for MS.

If the X360 had been reliable to start with, they would have shifted billions also...... hindsight is a great thing isnt it

Not sure why its "GAMES" - that advantage for the X360 is basicly redundant now, there are enough decent games of all varieties on the PS3 to keep new purchasers happy for a long time (after all we are talking about people about to buy)

Not true. Where's the following equipment ? :-

Wireless networking, rechargeable controllers, blu-ray, upgradeable HD etc. I dont really want to contribute to the PS3 versus 360 thing but saying that you can get everything for £150 is quite far fetched.
