as you can no doubt guess from the title i am still on xp, but i have tested vista and i found that quite a few programs i needed would not run on it. i uninstalled it about maybe 2 months ago.

so how is it doing now. have nero released a patch to allow nero 6 to run on it yet? what about other software? i see alcohol 120% is now compatible. haven't checked if zone alarm have released their long awaited vista version yet.

any opinions would be interesting? i sort of think i'll wait till service pack 1 but if people are having no problems these days i might upgrade sooner.

I've been using Alcohol 120 since the RTM version, so that definitely works. :)

From what I understand Nero 6 will never work on Vista, you need Nero 7 for that.

No idea about Zone Alarm.

i just checked zone alarm and no they haven't got it sorted it yet. but these programs were only an example of the problems i found.

what else are people finding won't run? or is everything fine.

For me Vista still isn't ready for prime time yet.

Drivers and performance aren't good enough, and some apps I use aren't compatible and will cost money to upgrade to a Vista version.

It still needs time to mature before I'll switch (and some DX10 games ;) ), but I'm in no hurry tbh as XP does everything I need. :)

am dualbooting but vista is running everythin am using and its been stable but am using xp for games just cusae vista ins't the best for games at the moment but am sure that will inprove

It depends entirely on the user. Mainstream software and standard PC use, Vista is ready for. However there are still pockets of incompatibility, which will be sorted given time. The best way is to give it a try. You're going to end up upgrading to Vista at some point right? So buy a copy and install it but don't activate it. Then you have 30 days to install all your software and see how it goes. If you have issues, go back to XP, no harm done. If it's all fine, activate and enjoy. :)
