Hello, I'm thinking about going to Hull to do a foundation degree. I've been having a look at student accomodation, are there any particular places not to live? :)

Very grim in Hull.

It's the London of the north. Full of smog and bad people. No plus points.

A friend lived in Humberston for a couple of years. It wasn't that bad round there...but thats near Grimbsy..doh

Yeah Hull is probably all a hell hole

I would not go there out of choice if it weren't for me having a family member there. It's pretty dull and grim tbh, not much interesting going on from my experience.

Well its probably better than Middlesborough which I've chosen also, Essex, Brighton and Bournemouth are on my list but I'd rather live somewhere cheap. Also its nearish Leeds which I love.

It can't be worse than Blackpool, surely? Also, I'd like to be in a shared private rented house.

It's probably not worse than Blackpool ;)

And there are plenty of nice places relatively close by to escape to (Beverley / York / other countryside) should you get bored / depressed / stabbed.

Should point out that I recently chose to move to Hull :)

It's not as bad as Middlesbrough, no. Can't comment on Blackpool!

Nothings worse than middlesbrough. Do you know that the whole world turns to black and white when you go over the borders? They haven't even got colour tv there, there just isn't any point. I like travelling through it. They built a flyover that goes OVER the place so you don't have to notice it much.

I see, and which areas should I avoid? :)

Most of the rooms for rent seem to be off Beverly road about 2 miles up from the city centre.

Avoid Bransholme & Orchard Park like the plague unless you want to get end up calling the Police every 5 minutes.

Bev Road's not too bad or some streets off Cottingham Road where the Uni is situated.

Pretty much the case, couldn't imagine there are many student houses to rent in the darkest depths of Orchard Park. Cottingham Road, and streets on and around - Princes Avenue, Newland Avenue etc. are all fine. Drove around north of Cottingham road the other day and it seemed a bit nicer, plenty of student properties.

Yeah, you'll end up on the Beverley Road/Cottingham Road area. Typical student places: lots of takeaways and such!

As above, Bransholme, Orchard Park & Preston Road are the areas to avoid - but you're unlikely to get student properties there!
