So I bought a Bonsai Tree

Was going to post a new thread but seen as this is already about bonsai ill just post in here if thats ok op?

Just started growing my tree today. I am soaking the seads in warm wet toilet tissue in a container above a hot water bottle, at about 6 pm tomorrow I transfer the seeds into the soil and hopefully my tree should start to grow.

I must admit I have no idea if these will grow and am not really sure what I am doing with it as I have 5 seeds all of which look different, do I clump them together or grow them seperate and move them close and wind them around each other later on?... who knows I think ill just see when they start growing.

If you're serious about bonsai talk to my brother http://www.saruyama.co.uk

I only water his trees that he keeps at home, that in itself is difficult, every tree needs different amounts of water and with around 30 trees at home at the moment it's no easy task.

Ahh ive just bought some seeds to start growing my first one. Haven't planted it yet but was planning on doing it this weekend. It's called a Juniperus Phoenicea.

It comes like this:

and should grow into something like this:

If I manage to keep it alive long enough that is.

just remember to get that whit bit you have to strategically kill parts of it :p

while not killing all of it of course :D

I was thinking of questioning how you came to be in possesion of this tree then noticed your location wasn't London or anywhere else involved in the current chaos... yet...

Not true, a local plant shop in my area sells them. Might get one off them tomorrow. Always wanted one after seeing it in the karate kid....or was it another movie?

Watch Karate Kid....I think you imagine in your head how it should grow and then cut it to fit that image...Mine always ends up bushy(!):D

I had mine for 8 years and died off only recently. The one I had used to lose it's leaves each year, I would soak it in the bath for a day and then about a month later it would bud.

Mine certainly wasn't hard work, barely did a thing to it other than water it. Plants in my house do thrive on neglect though, does my mums head in as I can grow stuff she can't and she's well into gardening.

Tempted to get another bonzai now.

Bought one today my first ever plant or tree haah!

any tips on keeping this little bugger alive?

Bonsai trees require too much maintenance. There's internet to be doing. Just buy a cactus. The only thing you have to do with a cactus is water it every couple months and make sure your dog and/or niece don't try and eat it.

That's what I replaced mine with, so far it is surviving my neglect.

Bump!

Seen bonsai trees in my local Tesco and fancy getting one. Yours still alive dom? I know it's only 8 quid but winter is upon us... I kept a Venus fly trap alive for a whole year but last winter finished it
