Failed on the Swerve. 48Km/h on my second run!

As im 19 i had to do the test on a Geared 125cc Bike. I Know they are capable of the 50km/h (32mph) But i think we should get a little bit of leeway compared to older riders on 500cc bikes. i Completely Hammered the bike, flat out. and got 50km/h for the emergency stop and 48km/h for the Swerve.

Another guy who was at the test centre on a 500cc failed for getting 48Km/h too. I believe its much easier to hit the 50Km/h on a 500cc but on a 125cc its a lot harder.

And to top it all off. on the 16th of may. (5 days time) they are changing the test to allow 48Km/h! :(

Not Happy! But rules are rules and i failed :(

Rant over :P

Get your knee down round the corner, full throttle as the bend opens up, keen the throttle pinned, swerve the cones. Easy. ;)

Apart from the knee down thats basically what i did. Bike was slow :(

For 2 and half hours training on a geared bike (never ridden a geared bike before) i managed to do everything else correctly Just the speed. got 50km/h on the Emergency stop but thats pushing it on the 125! :(

What gear were you in? I hammered it in 2nd on a cg125 and i got just over 50 i think!

Better luck next time, book asap since summers coming up!

3rd. Got told by the instructor to use 3rd. hammered the **** out of it :( 50km/h for Emergency stop, 48km/h for Swerve :(

Did mine on a CBF125. Hit around 57 and 55 in 2nd gear if I recall.

My first attempt wasn't quick enough so I really made sure I grabbed a good handful of throttle after that.

I got a minor for observation when walking the bike into the parking space, even though I observed all around me and noted the fact she wasn't looking at me at the time! I didn't think it would be a good idea to argue though

i got a Minor for not looking when pulling off from somewhere but i made sure 100% i checked every single time :|

Wow, second gear is better for sure (although i guess this depends on the gearing on the bike?), but 2nd for me was perfect!

Well as its an instructor bike i couldnt tell you the name, even though im good with them, but it seems to be a cheap one, with no name attached to it? had some kind of logo though

But it seems to be geared low? (Dont know if i mean high or low, Basically you couldnt go very quick in 2nd/3rd, 40mph in 5th was about half revs :| or seemed to be?!

a lot of stress on the day... Can barely remmember! :| But im booked in for another test shortly.

I got told to do mine in 2nd, was on a 500 though, but I wouldn't try 3rd on a 125 personally, just leave it in 2nd, pin it, then off power as you go through the speed trap.

Practicing I could never get 50, was always 49, or way higher than 50. Did the test at 56, and the emergency stop at 62, lol.

Yeah i could understand how you got 56 / 62 on a 500cc :P

I Think there should be some Tolerance to younger drivers on 125cc's especially when speed is the issue :| :(

Honestly, in 2nd, there is plenty of time. Just got to make sure you are going a decent speed round the corner.

i went round the corner at 18+mph and completely nailed it as i was approaching the end of the bend and still got under. :|

Have you driven a car? or is this your first experience of motoring/motorcycling?

Going from say 20mph in 2nd gear to 50mph is massively quicker than in 3rd gear, a good couple of seconds at least. The higher up the rev range you are the more torque and more power you have (and the more fun :)) If you have to, rev the testicles off it

Can you be failed for going too fast? or cautioned/given a minor?

I've Held a Full UK Driving Licence for 2 years. i do know.

The Instructor said use 3rd because even at 19mph it was at like 5-6kish rpm. which i thought would be enough. Especially after the instructor said 3rd. it seemed very short geared. You don't understand, i literally had the throttle fully open. Completely hammered it. :(

What bike is it? My 125 doesn't red line until 10k, so you should have had at least a few thousand more revs in 2nd to get it up before you weren't gonna get anything more.

its one of these Cheap brands. didnt have a name written on it from what i remmember :(

Took another Mod1 test this morning, Passed with speeds of 52Km/h and 54 Km/h! :D Went round the bend at about 22mph!

Didnt get any minors :D So a clean sheet :)

Well done fella, done it in 2nd im guessing?

Nope, on the way to the Test centre i rode it till it more or less was valve bouncing in 2nd and it could only do about 28mph. so i had to shift to 3rd after finishing 2nd gear as i was coming out the bend! :O

i went round at 20-22mph in 2nd, then completely opened it up and then had to shift straight away and get some more power down to get to 32! aha :|

Wasn't happy when it couldnt do 30 in 2nd, but at least i done it! :D

It worked, which is the main thing :)

Have you booked your mod 2?

Looking into it, Basically the instructing school im with have some in June but are looking for a cancellation for me.

They want me to do some hours of training before i do the test, But i don't think i'd need a lot, got a car Licence, and i had a Moped when i was 16 and now use a 125cc Scooter. So im pretty confident on the roads. How long do you think i'd need to do 'Practising'. bare in mind my 125cc Scooter is fully Automatic. But i can ride they're 125cc Geared bike pretty easily. Gears doesn't seem to be a problem.

How long do you lot reckon ill need? 1 Hour before the test seem adequate?

Cheers :)

Grats on passing, when I was doing my mod1 I had 49km/h on my first attempt and then 52km/h on another on a 125cc.

Fairly to say the 50km/h minimum speed limit is ridicules and soon this will be changed for mod1.

Taken from mcn.

it was 50Km/h now its 5% of that so 48Km/h is allowed. So 31 MPH instead of 32 :| :(

Thank though mate :D Appreciate it :) Could you read my post a couple up about Module 2? :) Thanks

Br4d - to be honest I think they just want your money. I really don't think any additional training will make your chance of passing mod 2 any higher as you already ride a scooter and a car so you are experienced enough to go for it.

I feel that I wasted money for my 3 days training which I did on my own 125cc bike. Well first day was fine because I had a chance to practice mod1 (even though the area was so much smaller that the real test area) but the rest 2 days was just like riding on my own. Waste of money. The instructors didn't really care about anything and I paid good money for it. I gained nothing from it, just sore bottom :)

I Spoke to the instructor and they wont do an hour training and the Test. Has to be the 2 days :( And i need to do the Test on a Geared bike so im pretty screwed. Can't exactly use the scooter :(

Another instructor quoted me £30 less but for only 1 day training :O

What shall i do? :(

Got my Module 2 Test Tommorow! Hopefully it goes well :)

Then i can take these L Plates off if i pass :D

Good luck :)

One thing I'm trying to remember is to turn my bloody indicators off!

aha, im not too bad at that. but the bike im learning on has a dodgey indicator switch, its like very high up and hard to reach with your thumb and doesnt click inwards to cancel. you have to pull it to the middle, but pull it too much and it signals the other way :|

Cheers mate :)
