This thread celebrates two "I finally got around to.."'s

The first is I finally went in and traded in all my Xbox 1 games (Been meaning to do it for ages) Managed to get 70 quid for them all (about 20-ish in total i think) So picked up Burnout Paradise and another game and have a nice £15 voucher for my next game :)

The second game leads to the next finally got around to. I finally got around to picking up COD4!! I've been putting it off for ages because the demo was boring (having finished the game I think its the worst level) and the second hand price never seemed to drop

Absolutely amazing, won't give anything away just in case but there so many cinematic moments. Far from perfect though, far far too short, i got it yesterday evening and only started it today and yet somehow its already finished  felt shorter than Halo 3. Also the usual respawning enemies suck as usual, why they don't change this I'll never know. Might try out multiplayer tonight :)

Yeah I was expecting that, still the SP was much better than I thought, just a lot shorter. Felt about half the length of CoD2 (the last one i bought)

Nah, I always do it on normal first time round. After the pain of doing CoD 2 on Veteran, I think I might just stick to Hardcore (or whatever the next one is called)

Can't believe you have put CoD4 off for so long! Its a fantastic game.

On a semi-related note, I have just got round to playing the Guitar Hero games...and OH MY, they are awesome!

I played COD4 sp and got bored. MP was just too much fun.

I finally got round to playing PS2 games I missed out on when I got out of gaming around 2004-2006.

Playing SotC(Shadow of the Colossus) right now. Fantastic game.

You really have to make yourself play through the first few missions. I got so bored after the third or so mission that I stopped playing. A month or so later I decided to start it again as SO many people were raving about it. I got past the mission I stopped at and oh my... It lead the to one of (if not, THE best) single player experience I've had in a game. The intensity of it all, I was just gripped the whole way through. I've heard a few people moan about how short it was, but I really couldn't care less. I was gripped from beginning to end and I actually completed it (something that I don't do with a lot of games). In my opinion, this effectively is the same length as any other half decent shooter, but with all of the padding taken out. So you're just left with the best bits.

Anyone that hasn't finished the single player campaign, I triple dare you to finish it and tell me that you didn't think it was awesome. Go on!

The MP ownz! It made single player a little boring imo. Ive tried playing single player again a few times but it does seem a little tedious and I find myself back on team deathmatch, still love the sneaking mission though. Online ranking system is quite cool but it must take years to get to level 10. Im only on my first prestige badge and it seems like I play it all the time.

Well I played the multiplayer for a bit last night. The unlocking system is quite cool, although having to unlock game modes sucks in every way possible. The game itself I enjoy and times and detest in others. Seems like I'm constantly getting shot in the back or from the side, even when im with my team mates. Also there doesn't seem to be a lot of combat, 1 or 2 shots and you die, so half the time I just drop dead without ever seeing my killer. Also sometimes when I shoot someone a health icon pops up where im shooting them, what does that mean?

That means youve hit them but you havent killed them. (Youve damaged thier health and are likely seeing red around the screen) Main thing to do is keep low and avoid open areas, the shot rate is low but I find its better that way with the health system + it makes it easier to kill people in harder situations. The tanker level is pretty bad for getting shot up its basically a frag fest, so id probably vote to skip at first, and there is a kill cam if you find youre getting nailed unfairly, practise though.

You are playing against people who've been there for months, would you expect it to be any other way to start with?

It doesn't take long at all to unlock every game type, the system was used as a way to ease people into the game. I guess it's no different to any shooter in that a lot of the main tactics are things you'll pick up over time. Believe me I'm not very good on shooters at all, but over time even I got to a point where I was half decent (by my own standards anyway). Sadly I've lost 90% of that through not playing the game for a while, but if I can get to a half decent level then anyone can.

Thought I should post a few opinions now that I've had a chance to get to know both titles:

CoD 4

I can see why it is so popular, the leveling system is very good and lends a lot of "just one more game" feeling to the experience. However it can be very frustrating at the beginning, felt like I was just running around trying to find a good weapon on the ground. The game itself seems to vary from very fun to incredibly frustrating. It feels like there are far too many cheap ways to die, 9/10 times I die from a grenade thrown up into the air, or an airstrike, or a grenade launcher. It just feels like a lot of the deaths are completely out of your control. Plus the spawning in this game is some of the worst I've ever encountered, the number of times I've spawn in someones gunsights or with a live grenade at my feet. Also I've had people respawn behind me and immediately shoot me in the back. Despite these flaws I am enjoying it, sometimes you get a really tense match with two good teams and it just all fits into place.

I've mentioned how much I enjoyed the single player, have replayed some of the missions several times. I really wish that the training portion of the game had been longer, that initial timed challenge was great fun and it would have been awesome to have a set of challenges to extend that.

Burnout Paradise

*sigh* This could have been such a good game, its still god but incredibly frustrating. Lacking features that the most basic games testing should have picked up on. Why is there no restart race option?? Why is there no way to set waypoints on the map?? Why haven't these been added in a patch?? At times I really enjoy this, and I have played it more than any of the other Burnout titles, just cruising around the city is really fun. Also the game seems a touch easy, I've probably lost 2 or 3 races out of the ones I've done (about to get to A license) and the road rages are just beyond easy. Most of them I finish with about 30-40 takedowns because the time limits are so generous and it seems very easy to take cars down. I wish they'd put in signature takedowns as well. I haven't tried the online yet so can't comment on that.

MGS4, after 39 minutes since putting the disk in a saw an enemy, at 47 minutes the disk went back into the case, clearly a game for the fans and no-one else. Bleh.

Err...thanks for that?

As you progress you unlock guns and items so you can create decent weapons via custom classes. There are some cheap ways to die but ill be honest, I do it as well, throwing grenades on the tanker level is sneaky and cowardly but who cares, everyone else does it. With respawns i noticed that after the patch. Ive found that you will spawn right back into the action next to where you died, I see it basically as a revenge attempt. When you next die you spawn further away. I think it works a lot better tbh.
