So I gave my bike a clean...

Throw it away :p

Generally I'll use cheap nasty cotton polishing cloth from Halfords for drive train areas and throw it away after a few uses.

Old microfibres that I daren't touch the car with for most other things :)

Should be able to get most of the dirt/grime/crud off with a good soak and careful blast with the hose so it's only really drive train and tyres that should leave anything behind.

Thanks for the input guys. Probably best to throw them away to be fair. After all, when you can buy them for cheap from the likes of Wilko, you can't really grumble. Also, that Surfex stuff sure ain't cheap!

Approach the cleaning process logically and you should be able to minimise the need to dirty any cloths and (by doing the former) extend how often they need to be disposed :)

I use mechanic's blue roll (heavy duty kitchen roll) for the drive chain, microfibre for everywhere else. Shove the microfibres in the wash every now and then, job done.

Generally use cheap (kitchen) sponges for washing down with cheap bulk bought citrus degreaser. Throwing them away when they're getting tatty/unwashable. Avoid ones with scoring pads! :o

I use same citrus degreaser (it's an industrial floor cleaner, around £26 for 10L) neat in a chain cleaner (as it's not as 'strong' as the cycling branded stuff that's 100x the price). Generally wiping chain down with old rags (tshirts, pajamas, jeans etc) first & after chain cleaner, rather than buying specific cloths for it. I'd probably use j-cloths but the blue dye in them would probably come out with degreaser?

Once chain is clean & lubed I wipe excess off with kitchen towel or mechanics blue roll carefully so it doesn't shred & end up in my drivechain.

Buying cheap nitrate 'work' gloves was probably the best investment. I get them cheaper than this through work.

Awesome. Thanks for the input. I like the look of the industrial floor cleaner. I will look to invest in that at a later date. :)

I did grab some of the Wiggle (Lifeline) stuff when my other cleaner was in storage (moving house), seemed pretty good for the price (if you wanted lower volume/cheaper/less). Not as strong as Juice Lubes/Muc-Off stuff but not bad.

Awesome. Thanks. A lot of good options. I used Morgan Blue recently and my god does it cut through grease so well!
