....I'm truly disappointed at the moment. I had a k800i as my phone before I parted company with my last job. Apparently there was little difference in the camera quality of these two phones. Having used both I can tell you that the k800i is a better camera, it also appears to be a better handset.

The N73 does have more options for taking photos with so I’m starting to thing I have them setup wrong and the "auto" feature is just a load of pap. The k800i didn't have this problem though the auto feature took great pictures 90% of the time regardless of the conditions..... Maybe this is me not using the "power" of the n73 camera, if that is the case please help me fix it!

Now onto the handset itself, it appears more durable than the k800i although I suspect it will suffer from the common "down" button syndrome most of these joysticked handsets do......the only reason I opted for the n73 was because I'd been through 2 k800i's in 12 months and fancied a smart phone.

Yes, a smart phone, not a slow phone. It's so slow!

The only other thing is battery life, now I’m not sure if this is because of the network or not, the battery lasted 24-50 hours just sat on the table in my apartment. I think this was caused by the phone constantly changing signal types though, it frequently goes from normal gprs to 3g then drops back again.... is there anyway or sorting this? If it is just the phone I’m truly shocked!

So tell me your experiences with the phone, any tweaks you've made to it? Possible solutions to the above issues if there are any!

Have you done a firmware update? Recent posts from N73 users seems to suggest that having the latest firmware on the phone resoves some of the slowdown issues.

As for battery life, if you don't use 3G much/at all, turn it off in the settings. Consumes a fair bit more battery power otherwise. I've done this with my K800i and while battery life isn't quite as impressive as my K750's was, it's pretty decent now.

Just finished doing this moments ago so i'll see how it goes now, there is a speed increase which is nice. Going to have a good play with the camera again later see if the software is any better. The firmware was on a shocking early v2, its now on v3 :o

Its not that slow either, a whole heap better than the N70.

Much quicker than my N70, I would love to see what difference the v3 firmware makes but unfortunately I'm on O2 :(

I've got an N80 and it was pretty slow from the day I got it. I went through the list of installed apps (and there were a lot) that I didn't use and removed a load of them, and deleted anything else I knew I wasn't going to need and it helped speed things up quite a lot.

Firmware updates are a good idea too, but you might void your warranty so look into it first.

Well, after a days use it seems that it is a hell of a lot faster since the firmware upgrade. I get the odd pause but no more so than I did with the k800.

Unfortuently the battery life is still less than 24 hours, it appears its jumping from 3 gprs to 3 3g every few seconds in my place which is no doubt causing the power issue. I cannot for the life of me find a way to specify that it uses only gprs unless I tell it different....any ideas where it is?

Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Network -> Network Mode. But I think 3 get NO SWEARING off if you just force it to GSM and don't use 3G at all. You might get a warning text.

I'm paying I don't see why not.

Edit - I don't have that option available :(

Three have to pay Orange everytime you roam onto their network and make/recieve calls/texts. Therefore, Three will do all they can to keep you on their 3G network wherever possible. Basically, this means your phone will always search for a 3G connection before a 2G.
