I don't know why but i have never really liked AMD although i am running an AMD GPU at the moment.

I've always told people to go nVidia, stay clear of AMD blah blah blah.. You get the jist.

Admittedly i have had a few problems in the past with drivers but now it seems fine on this card.
I don't understand AMD's system on models anymore 7990 used to be top? i think? that's all i know up to.

So I'm upgrading and thought i should consider AMD seeing as people are saying that the amd is a better value than the new 960 and stuff like that.

Now i am looking around the £250 mark, can push it up a bit if its really worth it. What can i get?

That MSI that Avenged7Fold linked, looks a beast, would defiantly grab that over anything at the moment, but when the 3xx is released, when AMD finally get off their bums, nvidia wont be comparable...

Colour clash with the rest of my system :'(

But i'll definitely get one, it looks worth it and it's 970 speed with a much cheaper price tag! Well maybe a little less but it's cheaper.

A PSU to match?

Although, i would probably take a look at your PSU if you head down the 290x route. I have seen mine peak at 350w+ during benchmarks. The corsair PSU in your sig has something like 35Amps on the 12V rail. It may be cutting it close and if it is enough, make sure you have enough PSU cables for it. Some lightning editions have extra plugs for extreme overclocking, dont know if you need all of them to get it going as other 290x's use just 8+6.

I posted above a PSU to match, i will probably go with about 750w as im looking to ad another later on :)

I was aware i have to change it, i didn't think i would have a chance running it on a 450 as it says minimum of 600!

Is there one you recommend?

Go for the LE and SF psu, coming from HD7800, you won't need CrossFire.;)

290X CrossFire user here, here's my take on CrossFire/Sli fwiw, it's not for the 'lazy' gamer as there is work/waiting involved, if that's not your thing and just want to play with no mgpu distractions then stick to one card, that LE can be really fast if you get lucky.:)

With plans to crossfire though will it be enough?

No it won't a 1000W SF at least for smooth delivery.
