and i must say i am really impressed by the speed, look and feel of it.

I installed it more as an experiment than anything else, i am currently using using xp and windows 7 in a dual boot deal...gotta say the difference is night and day.

Even on my system: E2200 @ 3GHz, 4GB of Geil RAM, Gigabyte P35 DS3R, and HD4850 (so not exactly cutting edge :D) this OS runs beautifully.

The build that i got was the 7100 Windows 7 Ultimate version, can anyone tell me in laymans terms exactly what happens from here on in, i need to know exactly how i upgrade to a full version, what its likely to cost, when i should upgrade, is it worth going for ultimate over say home?

Your help is much appreciated.

Yes everything is running really well.

I had a bit of a problem writing the boot disk in Imgburn for some reason but changed to alcohol 120 and it worked fine.

It was kinda wierd installing it though, it seemed to have very long periods of inactivity for some reason.

7100 an old build now, so much has improved in l8r build's latest is 7264, can be found around the net :P great os :)

on buying it, loads of places are taking pre orders for it, also free upgrade to some ppl that have bought vista recently.

is the path from 7100 to 7264 an upgrade or a reinstall ?

It might be but I'm restricted to downloading it at work... so official sites it is :(

I hate not having proper broadband at home!

7264 is the latest available build but the RC keys don't work for it...

anyone know the latest proper build that is fine to use with the real keys? can't be bothered doing anything dodgy for the sake of a couple of revisions i just want the latest sensible version...

i do wonder how many people will actually buy this... isn't it over £200??? - companies and the like can probably shell out that much but in a recession how many individuals are really going to legitimately get W7?

i reckon if they charged a quarter of the price they'd sell 4 times as many and everyone would be happy... no?

You're joking right? If not you are living in a cave. On pre order from 16th July it's £50. Even then I think it's £79 from memory until December. It's only next year it goes up to full price.

For £50 I'll be placing my pre-order. That's cheaper than all my previous operating systems have being.

7260 32 bit and 7232 64 bit were the last leaked ones with working keys. 7260 is meant to have quite a few difference to 7100, 7232 hardly any.

I'm just waiting for the final release now tbh. I;m fine with 7100. Everything works except hd-dvd playback but I never got that working in Vista either. :(

Home = Basic windows, pretty much same kinda package as Vista Home.
Pro gives you domain joining abilities & XP mode for older appz,
Ultimate gets you Bitlocker, for HDD encryption & Multi language support.

With regards to upgrading; it depends where you live.
US Windows7 you can upgrade once you have purchased the OS.
In Europe you get Windows 7 E, with which the only option is a fresh install. One of the primary reasons for this is because microsoft are shipping the OS without a browseer, due to the recent court case in europe which decided MS were playing unfair by shipping IE with windows. They don't want you to install a browserless OS over a complete version, as it would prob not work too well...

Hope this helps...
