I'm a PC gamer through and through. like many others, my early days were spent on consoles. I share great memories of the games from those times.
When the PS3 came out I decided I would give consoles a revival. I could've spent more to get the premium PS3 for PS2 compatibility but I decided to hold onto my cash. I was thoroughly disappointed.
There weren't enough games, the games I played were good, but lacking in quality and resolution compared to the PC. 1900x1200 with the option of all quality settings and further enhancements like AA had become standard to me.
I was disappointed to realise that the PS3 is essentially old generation to PC gamers. Since I chose the cheaper option, PS2 games that I had cherished were still out of reach. I sold my PS3, my experience with it was similar to spending a night with a Hong Kong street girl; temporary satisfaction that can still leave you hollow on the inside afterwards...
Since birth my console time-line is as follows;
Sega Mega Drive (genesis) -> PS1 -> PS2 -> PC -> PS3 -> PS2 Slim
My first PS2 was a launch PS2, it died of Disk Read Error some time ago along with the games I loved. I still kept them, I tried pcsx2 emulation with them on the PC, buggy and slow, it wasnt enough to satisfy my desire to play the games for real.
It was at 3.30am last night, as I was sitting at the bottom of the garden with my cat in the dark, wearing only a dressing gown, sipping tea and surfing on my Eee that I decided to buy a slim PS2 for £45, along with a bunch of other games I had yet to taste for barely any money at all.
It seems, with the craze of the HighDefinition generation, developers forgot how to make good games, only good looking ones.
Backwards = forwards?
