I'm a PC gamer through and through. like many others, my early days were spent on consoles. I share great memories of the games from those times.

When the PS3 came out I decided I would give consoles a revival. I could've spent more to get the premium PS3 for PS2 compatibility but I decided to hold onto my cash. I was thoroughly disappointed.

There weren't enough games, the games I played were good, but lacking in quality and resolution compared to the PC. 1900x1200 with the option of all quality settings and further enhancements like AA had become standard to me.

I was disappointed to realise that the PS3 is essentially old generation to PC gamers. Since I chose the cheaper option, PS2 games that I had cherished were still out of reach. I sold my PS3, my experience with it was similar to spending a night with a Hong Kong street girl; temporary satisfaction that can still leave you hollow on the inside afterwards...

Since birth my console time-line is as follows;
Sega Mega Drive (genesis) -> PS1 -> PS2 -> PC -> PS3 -> PS2 Slim

My first PS2 was a launch PS2, it died of Disk Read Error some time ago along with the games I loved. I still kept them, I tried pcsx2 emulation with them on the PC, buggy and slow, it wasnt enough to satisfy my desire to play the games for real.

It was at 3.30am last night, as I was sitting at the bottom of the garden with my cat in the dark, wearing only a dressing gown, sipping tea and surfing on my Eee that I decided to buy a slim PS2 for £45, along with a bunch of other games I had yet to taste for barely any money at all.

It seems, with the craze of the HighDefinition generation, developers forgot how to make good games, only good looking ones.

Backwards = forwards?

Didn't dip your toe into the world of the PSN games then?
All about old skool gameplay and high scores, like it used to be.

ps2 is a great machine lots of great games to have
i agree somewhat that the reach for hd graphics has stunted this generation a bit
enjoy

I disagree, I've played some fantastic games on the next-generation, however a lot of them are appearing on the PC, however the primary market for a lot of these games are now the console market, which is perhaps the biggest change.

there are plenty of good games for all the "next gen" consoles.. though ps2 does a load of awesome games too.

yeah I agree with the PSN comment, there was much more old school fun there. I like games like SSX Tricky, Gitaroo-man. I grow tired of games that feel the need to have a radio station commentator pushing me on like a celebrity.

Take Burnout for example. The original on the PS2 was all about the speed and an unforgiving crash system, not quite a simulation but definitely a thrill. After that it got americanized into crash everything for BIG SCORES and this dumbed down gameplay lacking skill. I've played every burnout, and its fair to say, from burnout 1, to that latest one I cant even remember the title, things have changed dramatically.

anyone have a theory as to why? because as far as im aware, the majority gaming population is 16-30, games hardly need dumbed down. SAME THING with movies, exactly the same. Die Hard movies, from acting, real explosions and a reasonable plot. To advanced CGI, generic plot and not much room for character arc's etc

My god you dont have pro evo then! Me and a mate back here in mk spend 2 evenings a week just playing it! (there is little better multiplayer)

I agree with takeo though that burnouts changed way too much (i still love the first 3 just to sit and do the racing as it gets stupidly hard towards the end)

And of course a good bash at the best tony hawks game is always fun on the ps2 (good old pro skater 4 before it all went **** up but after they got rid of the silly 2 min session thing)

My PS3 is still in the loft waiting for some decent RPG's. I have my PS2 rigged up to a 21" CRT sony TV and I'm loving it more now then I ever did.
I was a bit of a PC head whilst the PS2 was peaking so many of the games I have not played yet. So I got on the auction site and got some nice deals.

FFX
Digital Devil Saga
Onimusha series
Wild Arms series
Shadow Hearts series
Kingdom Hearts
Devil May Cry series
Zenosaga series
FFXII
Valkyrie Profile 2
Rogue Galaxy
Dragon Quest VIII
MGS

The list goes on and on. By the time I finish this lot then maybe we will have some decent games.
The quality of PS2 games are excellent and agree that at the moment it's all about graphics and not the content. I have been so disappointed by the games line up and the fact that most games have vsync issues that the PS3 has been in my loft only after three weeks of buying it.

I still love playing Time Crisis 3 on my ps2, and the misses loves spryo games, gta is horrible though now i've got used the 360 graphics

Made me cry when the 360 dies and I though it will be okay I'll just go back and finish San Andreas.. :(

Currently playing Chrono Cross,Vagrant Story and Grandia on my trusty PS1 :D Havent touched my 360 for weeks.
Also got Xenosaga for PS2 to play

I'm considering getting a PS2 again, so I can finish off FF X, FF X-2 and FF XII. I started them all but never got round to finishing them :(
