...and it's something I don't know much about! Was hoping you guys could give me some pointers on the best, quickest and cheapest way to go about this.

Firstly, this is for a group of architecture students. We are in our final year and essentially need a blog to document our progress and market ourselves for our release in to the wider world:D

It's got to be very simple, clean, and allow embedding of images/youtube videos etc, I would also like a link to profiles of everyone in our studio.

So, looking to produce a main blog page with some links across the top, lets say 'about, students, links and contact' with the students page perhaps having a grid of mugshots which takes you to a profile page of the six students (like a cv, with some examples of their work)

Do you guys think this is something a guy with no experience can throw together in wordpress, which I'm assuming is the best way to do this?

What's the best process, do I use the recommended wordpress hosting or go somewhere else?

What about domains?

Am I able to grab a template, add content and preview before sorting out the hosting etc?

And.... quite importantly, with a wordpress blog I assume there's a graphic interface to adding content. i.e. the rest of the students can keep it updated easily.

HELP! Thanks!

Yup, I'd go with Wordpress.

You can buy your own hosting from Vidahost or TSOHost (both recommended here). You won't need a huge amount of space or bandwidth so the basic package should do you.

What about domains?

Some of the packages with the above two hosts come with a free domain, if not just use someone like 1&1. Doesn't really matter too much.

No, not really. It'll be more faff anyway.

Yup. It's all WYSIWYG editing (so it's just like using Word) and you can add as many users as you like with different access levels.

Do you need your own domain? Or will a free hosted solution do?

You can run Wordpress yourself, or have it hosted for you via wordpress.org.

If you have a domain, i'm more than happy to provide hosting (comes with Cpanel and fantastico - one click wordpress installation)

I have a good Friend who designs uploads and starts website for people and this would be great for his Portfolio PM me if you would like me to ask him for you mate :)

thanks for the offers guys, quite keen to do it all myself though as I need to learn...

Domain, hosting and a boring template now sorted:) Gotta make it pretty now. At the moment I think I'm going to be lazy and use iweb...
