I'm well overdue a new camera so I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to get into this photography lark.

I didn't want to pickup a happy snapper so I did a lot of research and decided on the s6500fd. I was considering the 9600 but for the extra £50 it didn't have all that much more going for it plus by the time I got all my accessories it would've been around £300. I also found several shots taken with the s6500fd that really sold it to me.

So I have the s6500fd, 1 gig xd card, and loads of rechargable batteries arriving on Friday.

I couldn't get a case or tripod from the site I ordered from, so I'm hoping you guys could recommend some products I could look at.

As far as tripods go I'd love to have something really portable but practical as well. For the case, I'd like something that'll support the camera well and have room for spair memory cards and 4 spair AA batteries (maybe more?).

Could someone who has had this camera previously tell me what comes in the box? Do I need to get a neck strap as well or does one come with it?

If anyone can think of anything else I might need then by all means please let me know.

Can't wait for Friday :D

I guess, like with everything, it all depends on what you want to pay.

you could spend a grand on a tripod, or you coudl nip to asda and get oen for £15 that would probably do every thing you want (providing you dont want to go out in heavy winds etc)

for a bag (and possibly a tripod) go into your local camera shop, have a look at the bags they have and see if any take your fancy, then have a look in their bagain bins. I just picked up a bag for 9.99 which has 5 areas, in the main bag, some pockets etc. perfect amount of room for me, for my nikon d50, kit lens, sigma 70-300 and 2x tele convertor. And there is even a free compartment fot the olympus c740 bridge camera (that the missuses uses now)

you could go out and buy the best tripod, that is so sturdy yuo can stand on it at full extension and still get still shots, and the best bag on the market, or you could get both for £20 ish, depends on what you want really.

Congratulations on the new cam. I have been looking at these myself. The best place for info is the fuji forum at dpreview. Quite a few people here have or had the 9500 but I don't think anyone has the 6500.

Went with one of these

A highstreeet competitor wanted a lesser Lowepro shoulder bag for £34.99 :o. Got that one online for £20 delivered.

Still haven't decided on a tripod yet.

Keep us updated when your new toy arrives, I'm thinking about moving up to a bridge camera and would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Fuji as it seems like quite good value for money.

Camera arrives tomorrow so I'll start playing then.

For the money and reviews it really seems like a great buy. Lens is the same as the 9600.

If anyone has this could they post some pics they've taken please?

Cheers

Right so I went out to Henley today to take a few snaps.

I wasn't really aiming for much except to test out different exposures and focus so here's a few.

I do apologise for the huge files but image shack was playing games and their already uploaded now.

Please note these are more reflective of how crap my camera skills are than the quality of the camera. However for a first time going out with a descent camera I'm pretty happy.

Well that was short but not so sweet. Seems like the CCD couldn't cope with the sunny weather. As of yesterday the exposure is screwed and the images have scan lines all over them.

Tried everything I can think of and fujifilm tech support say it sounds like the CCD's borked. Returning it to the e-competitor as soon as I get an RMA ref from them.

I was dead impressed with the camera though and am happy to have a replacement.

Just have to wait now :(

I was just about to post about this camera as I was thinking of picking one up and wanted to see what others have said about it. Sounds like I'll be getting one on payday then :D
