These new versions of firefox are so incredibly buggy. I am experiencing issues on both linux and windows - lockups, stuttering, crashing.

Why can't they just clean it up without adding pointless bloat, firefox has become too widely used and is totally missing the point now. Every new version seems to change something that I really liked about the previous, though I will admit that they are probably improving the security and low level performance with every update.

My firefox seems to lock up while I type, and "stop responding" for about 10 seconds until it kicks into life again and updates the input I was typing in all in one go. On linux it just crashes regularly. Even with clean installs on different computers I still experience various bugs.

I have switched to SRware Iron. (don't use default chrome it tracks your web usage)

Now I need to find a way to make the tab bar more sensible ^_^, but at least my web browsing experience isn't plagued with crashes and bugs.

rip, firefox.

Any Firefox stability problems will be being caused by settings you have changed or add-ons you have installed, or general OS instability.

Firefox works perfectly fine for a large number of users, so don't blame the software for problems of your making.

(Lack of reading my whole post?) Of course I have done different clean installs. I reinstall my windows every few months and I have been using several other machines owned by other people (who complain of problems from time to time). I used to stand by firefox but very recently it has gotten unbarable. I would be the last person to jump to conclusions - the only reason I can think of that would be causing firefox to crash in unstable software design or the flash player (has been the only extension in firefox on my friends' fresh linux installations on netbooks), the flash player is an essential component - so if it is causing firefox to crash that still makes firefox unusable. I like firefox's general appearance and design far more than any other browser - but I can't stand all the crashes I have been experiencing (like I said already, on different machines with different operating systems). I wish firefox would work smoothly, but it doesn't seem to anymore.

The last time I ran IE manually was to download firefox :P

I have been using chrome for a few hours without any problems, which is infinitely better than what firefox has become these past few months which would have been 5 or 6 crashes/issues every hour. I am not trying to be spiteful, I would love to use firefox if it wasn't being buggy. Could there be a problem with it's update system? It usually gets buggy just after an automatic update.

Iron is the way forward, but I still use FF occasionally but overall I prefer Iron also. :)

I have not noticed any problems with firefox I have to say. Though Having just seen something about thier profits going up by millions I think they are fast become like google (spy on you, track and trace and sell on every bit of info they can get their hands on about you). That is what I am more worried about.

I wouldent use IE or Chrome if my life depended on it.

What do you guys think of Sleipnir

The only times I have ever had firefox crash on me ever it has been the direct result of adobes rubbish flash player, and happens more on amd64 linux. If you're experiencing issues with firefox it's to do with the environment you're running it in so in essense you are whats stopping you from using firefox and not firefox.

flash player gets on my nerves as does Reader which seems to need like 4 gigabyes of updates every 5 min's. The adobe things seem to be heavy on my system.

/facepalm

Adobe software is a **** stain on any computer. Every update would make the software slower and slower. I recently switched from adobe reader to foxit and now pdf files load immediately as opposed to the age that they took with adobes software, and not having a new security vulnerability patched every 5 minutes is a blessing as you say. There's still the issue of their ****** flash player crashing the browser as it consumes enormous resources, but that will be a thing of the past with html 5, thank the lord.

This ^

People blaming their own mistakes and failings as others wrong doings, it's just like being at work!

With Iron just bung the NPSWF32.dll file into the plugins folder, then you can use flash without having flash installed on your computer...

When Flash does crash though, Iron handles it pretty well and allows to only close the tab causing the crash...

Well I am grateful for the info about foxit. I have banished adobe reader and my pc somehow seems happier for it. I am not sure weather that could be proven in lab tests. It just seems chirpier!

Now all we need is something nice to replace flash and shockwave. And waht teh hell adobe air is I dotn know. I have never seen any indication that it performs any useful purpose. My pc does not seem to be unhappy without it.

Excuse my spelling or lack of. I am dyslexic anyhow but I have had a sherry or two. Apologies to the countdown nerds.

Is shockwave used any more? I don't have it installed. Flash has been replaced by html 5 on websites like youtube, I see no reason why html 5 won't have completely replaced flash for video purposes in a couple of years.

Probably stuck in the Win 95/98 mindset where people believed windows would get irreversibly slow over time which could be solved by reinstalling every 6 months. Complete nonsense of course but people find it hard to let go, as evidenced by the OPs inability to grasp the progressive improvements to firefox. I remember FF when it was still phoenix, better than IE but still not great, in the same vein FF3 is better than 2 and I'm sure FF4 will be fine too.
