Since my jump to LED bandwagon i never got the image quality that i was expecting to get. I went through 3 different LED monitors (including LG ips led) but all of them had same flaws, from terrible color saturation to washed out blacks. But the Game breaker was the flickering at lower brightness level, which i was forced to keep below 30 or risk burrning my eyeballs.
In the end i gave up and decided to go back to the trusty LCD ccfl display. Bought an Acer V243h and everything from vivid colors to deep blacks was better than the led panels been using it for few hours now and no headaches either. Long story short, newer tech is always not better.

I think the idea behind LED (instead of CFL), was more down to cost cutting and lower power usage. It also allows the monitor to be thinner.

I'm not sure if LED was ever supposed to improve image quality.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

For the record, my monitors are (best first, worst last):
1. DGM PVA (4 yrs old) - CFL, VA
2. Dell U2312H (1 yr old) - CFL, IPS
3. Philips 196V - LED, TN

The 4 yr old DGM offers image quality which is not far of my Sony CRT Trinitron monitor. The DELL IPS has a washed out look about it. The blacks of the DELL don't even come close to the blacks of the DGM. If you haven't used top quality monitors before, you will be happy with it. The LED monitor is currently using 6w of electricity, which is great as a satellite monitor.

One thing I learned is that monitor tech doesnt seem to advance much, if it all, when it comes to image quality. When a 4 yr old monitor can beat the image quality of a newer monitor, you have to wonder where R+D budgets are being directed...apart from making monitors use lower power.

I HATE LED monitors with a passion and hating the move away from CCFL which I find much more balanced and comfortable with more natural colors. Most LED monitors I've found have high frequency flickering too which while almost impossible to observe with the naked eye is telling in general eye fatigue.

Just an update I have been gaming and watching movies on it and image quality is superb. Couldn't be happier with my purchase I am gonna stick with LCD from now on :)
