So I thought my 5770 was stable...

Hi everyone! I recently got a 5770 and did a bit of overclocking, and for the past few days I have had it running at 960/1350. Then when I start up my PC this afternoon and apply the afterburner settings, I get a blueish screen with lines across it (not a BSOD) and then after a minute the PC restarts.

Any idea if this is the GPU being unstable? I tested it with 5 minutes of Furmark and have been playing Crysis happily with it.

Take it back to stock settings and see if you still get the blue screen problem.

Did you alter the voltage what type of 5770 is it etc etc

you really need to tell us these things if you expect any help it saves us always having to ask

I've never had the problem at stock clocks, and the voltage wasn't altered, it's a Sapphire one.
Where do I set up my sig so that it displays my system information?

easy way to check the ram is download msi kombuster

set the ram to 1300 run the benchmark note down the score increase the ram to 1310 (10mhz at a time) once you see the score drop the ram will be at it's limit run each test twice to allow for anomolies when you think you reached the limit go up a further 10 mhz and test again just to confirm. then go back to the highest score you got and drop back 10mhz. Then go play some games and test it out.

Testing the core is the same thing really except look for artifacts on screen while gaming both kombuster and furmark are pretty useless for checking for artifacts i found the best game to check for artifacts and anomolies was crysis. (especially the trees or your hands and weapons become all messed up if pushed to far)

Give it a try and let me know what happens

Right, I've started testing the ram with the MSI tool, but my results are really weird!
I kept the core at 850mhz and ran two tests for each increase of 10mhz

1300mhz - 3224
1310mhz - 3238, 3212
1320mhz - 3215, 3220
1330mhz - 3224
1340mhz - 3224, 3232

It looks like I got my highest rsults at 1310mhz, but I've been running Crysis at 1350mhz fine, surely this can't be the limit?

1340mhz looks promising keep pushing upto 1380 and report the results back to me

The 1340mhz result has the higher avarage and looks better i'll know more for definate if you do upto 1380mhz my old 5770 capped out at 1375 before ecc kicked in

1360mhz - 3212, 3226, 3220
1370mhz - 3327, 3328, 3327
1380mhz - 3330, 3331, 3329

Crazy jump of about 100 points, don't know if that is quite right?

Set it at 1375mhz for now unless you really want to try for more but once the results start getting pretty close over 3 runs your almost at the limit so i'd go mid point between the two. funnily enough mine stopped at around the 1380 mark aswell.

Now you have your memory reset it back to default and work on the core. If you want a truly stable gpu set-up then you have to be prepared to put in the time to get it just right i'd start off around 900 on the core and start looking for those artifacts, crashes, freezes, glitches etc etc then bump it up bit by bit unfortunately there is no quick way of checking the core for stability it must be done over time taking into consideration the extra heat over long gaming sessions and not just a 90 second benchmark
