My new job means I will get Linux experience, and to be honest, I've touched it very little.

Where should I start to study to get certified in Linux (RHCE etc)?

What training materials should I buy?

Where should I start?

VMWARE, a good wiki, a few distros and some mini projects will help.

Give yourself some tasks relating to your workplace. For instance, setup a mail server, proxy server etc.

If memory serves me I am sure that Comptia do a Linux+ exam which should cover the most common tasks within Linux. Not taken the exam myself but I am sure that it would be a good place to start.

I'm new to Linux myself and am starting with Ubuntu as that seems to be the distro of choice on here with 50% of the vote in the current poll.

So I'm sure I will be asking questions later about how to do a number of common tasks.

I'm also currently learning the ways of the mac OS as well and i'm so impressed with the build quality that I think a second mac will be making its way into house in the future when Leopard is released.

Hi

there are only two comercial / enterprize distrobutions as far as business is concerned in general they are Red Hat and Novel SuSe Linux. Out of those two Red Hat has the most installs.

So start learning Red Hat, head over to http://www.centos.org/ and downloads version 4.3 this is the latest incarnation built from the Red Hat src RPM's

head over to https://www.redhat.com/apps/training/assess/ and take the test will show you what you need to learn / brush up on.

cheers
Deano

I'd go with the Comptia Linux+, and setting up and configuring a version of Linux at home. From what I’ve heard the RHCE is very difficult for people who have barely touched Linux, it's recommended for users with Linux experience already under their belt.
