Before we start, i have NO idea about building computers or specs or anything like that at all, so don't question me about stuff like that :L, thankyou :)

So, long story short, one of my mum's friends who is like, a computer whizz and can build them really easily offered to help me build a gaming computer, and i said sure, problem is, he doesn't have much idea about the specs for a gaming computer or anything, so, i need some specs, but, i don't know what im looking for either. So, I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place, so to speak.

So, i wonder if you guys can give me like a full idea of some specs for a gaming computer? i understand this is a lot of effort for you guys and i'd appreciate it if you can help, i need help with EVERYTHING, Graphics Card, Processor, Case, Everything, from the top to the bottom.

EDIT: Don't need mouse or keyboard xD
22" Inch LG Monitor.

I have about £1000-£1500 to spend, in the price range, I'm not sure if that's good for a gaming computer or not.

So, Help a dude out who has no idea about computer specs or anything? Thanks guys :D

Please don't tell me i should buy a premade one either, he has offered kindly and i'd feel terrible if i said i just bought a premade one. :)

Another element is have you any specific games today that you want to play, are you going to want to play games at full resolution and detail.

Or will you be happy with medium settings? which based on todays prices can save a lot of money (based on advice given). I guess you also need to confirm monitor size, 23" and over?.

What else do you want to do apart from playing games?

I think will my knowledge base, for now someone with more experience should should offer some specs / a basket. Have just gone through process myself, you can look at my thread to see the way I went.

Good luck.

*cut*

the works...

I would rather get 8GB RAM (because 8GB is more than enough for games for years) which is either Corsair, G.skill or kingston brand then use the saved money to get a i5 3570K which is not a OEM (so you get 3 years warranty, not 1)

Other than that, good build;)

Guys, i'll edit my post fully with like, monitor and shizzle.

Yeah, my mum's a big gamer too, and she wants to play in full resolution and detail as well as me, so....

i know the argument of oem chips vs retail chips, but tbh, if there's anything unlikely to fail, its the cpu, i think its an acceptable risk to take getting an oem chip rather than a retail chip. they are afterall exactly the same
but if it gives op the peace of mind, then by all means get the retail ;p

If your going for a special rig - which at £1500 it will be, you might want to check your monitor refresh rate. No good having a stonking graphic performance and then have a screen with low refresh rate. What is your LG monitor model ?.

Doubt you would wanna venture into a dual graphics setup as newbie to PC gaming, as drivers can be dodgy in some games before they're fixed. GTX 670 is more than enough for high end gaming on a 1080 resolution, the CPU can be overclocked with an awesome cooler (there's other ones that will do the same job), there's an SSD for lightning fast boot speed on your operating system and some space for a few games, plus a 1TB HDD for a good amount of storage space. The case is great, but may not be to your tastes, there's plenty more of different styles that may be up your street. Don't see the need to spend the whole budget to be honest when it's not really needed.

EDIT: Meant to link this motherboard and not the inferior one above (G43 isn't a real Z77 as far as I remember).

Doing SLI in a midi tower case isn't a great idea to be honest. It also means spending more on the PSU which isn't really necessary. Definately aim for a modular PSU though ;)

Tammzy and I tend to do similar builds and give similar advice. We will all have varying opinions and suggestions, how you balance the budget is ultimately down to you. I suggest you start with a case you like, from there we can spec the internals.

That looks nice to me and is well spec'd. Cash left over to buy a IPS monitor maybe if you wanted, remember you can dual screen :D

true spirit 120 makes the tranquillo and matterhorn a bit redundant imo
its better than the tranquillo for the same price
as good as the matterhorn for 5 quid cheaper
