Heya all,

so ive decided to come back on my ultra-slow, spyware infested win XP :) But now im on it ive got soooo many problems (plus side - ive got the proper x-fi drivers - and! x-pand works so muchb better)...

So anyway:

1. When I boot up - the "loading account" etc takes around 1 minute.
2. 2 X Apache.exe processes 1 with nearly 100% CPU usage - never installed apache on this windows.
3. "windows has found new hardware: SM Bus" - what the hells that?
4. Everything's amazingly slow

Ive tried a lot of difference anti-virus, anti-spyware - never found much

So anything else I can do? I havnt got a Win XP install disc - just the serial code which came with my original PC =/

Any help would really be appreciated :)

Cheers.

yep everything

internet's pretty slow as well - b/w seems choked - oh and im getting random popups, not website related..

You can, although be prepared to have to go through Add/Remove Programs on install, and remove the bloatware it installs.

Then, when it looks like it's all gone, install and run something like CCleaner to make sure it's all removed.

Have you got an Nvidia motherboard? If so those apache processes are probably because you've installed Nvidia active armour/firewall whatever they're calling it.

errrm epox nforce mobo?

anyway ive ordered a faster 160gb h/d as the one XP's on is a 4200rpm HD. I havnt done anything to it atm...

Is it possible to create a partition on my vista HD and use these recovery CD's (X2 with 600mb content on 1st one anywho)? last time im pretty sure it justs formats it then puts xp back on..

Hit it with Ccleaner and then defrag it a couple of times with a reboot in between each. Normally speeds mine back up from the dead.
