So im getting a mbp 2moro!

Guys, whats the best way of moving my mail and web favourites across to the mac? On my pc i currently use firefox and thunderbird.

I'll post some pics later :)

Any particular reason?

hmmmm, good question. I suppose it has to be the interface, I just like using it. I must admit I only use it for sending and recieving mail, a few RSS feeds and now the new Todo stuff. So if you're after more advanced features and plugins I cant comment. However, the new todo features are really good if you're one for keeping lists!!

:o Perhaps I need to start using mail instead of using webmail.

I am kinda liking mobile mail, so it would make sense I suppose. ;)

*Hugs his touch*

So is there no way of moving emails across from thunderbird on pc to mail on mac. Should i just forward to my hotmail, then back to my pop3?

Thunderbird / Netscape

In Thunderbird/Netscape, open the address book under the tools menu (on the old computer). Under tools in the address book, there is an export function. Save it as a recognizable filename in a recognizable place. Note at the bottom that there is a selection for "save as type" on a pulldown menu. LDIF is a format from the Netscape/Mozilla family. A CSV file is notable because it can be imported into almost any email program, including webmail programs like Yahoo, Gmail, or Hotmail.

Backing up your mailboxes in the most recent versions of Netscape and Thunderbird, however, involve going into your system files, finding the compiled email file that is used by these programs, backing it up (mine was 600MB+ when I needed to do it recently), and putting it in exactly the right place on your computer.

Even if you do this properly, this may not always work. You can find a more detailed explanation of this process at Sillydog.org.

Try that.

Moving my emails from thunderbird on my PC to thunderbird on my Mac was exactly like above, worked everytime!

Just find all your mail box folders within you profiles (Users > Username > AppData etc etc) and you will see your mailbox folders in here somewhere. Copy those across to the same place on the Mac and they should all be there.

Before you do that though, create all the mail accounts on your mac, and the exact same folders should be there, then just overwrite you mail files from the PC to the mac and it works a dream!

How about Thunderbird to Mac Mail though?

Do the same, and then import from "Other" mail program in the import menu on Mail, and select the folders from Thunderbird and Mail does it all for ya!

edit: I don;t think you need Thunderbird installed btw, try copying your mailbox folders to your OS X desktop for example, and select the folders then... I'm 99% sure that will work, as Mail doesn't look at Thunderbird, it just recognises the folders (.mbx) and does its thang!

Great link WotDa, I had this problem, and couldn't change the foldr structure, even when edited the .xml manually... Mac would just convert it back.

Could have done with that link then, I recreated all my itunes playlists from scratch again

I had the link when I switched, but started over anyway. :o

A few quick questions lads.

Does Cut/Copy/Paste exist on a mac, or is it all just drag and drop?

How do i do a print screen, for a screenshot?

Command + C and V to copy and paste, cutting is hackable or something. ¬.¬

You can also move drag instead of copy dragging by holding down command when you drag.

Shift + Command + 3 and look at your desktop. You can change settings with a bit of Google action.

Shift + Command + 4 should give you the option of what to snap, not at home to check though.
