Im actually really excited... a lot of my mates have one and play killzone together so have been wanting to get in on the action aswell.

Just a few questions....

What games are good on the playstation as opposed to the xbox (which i have also)? obviously im getting MGS4 monday :D

Will the playstation see my pc over the network? so i can drop things like music and videos on to it?

Has PSN improved? i heard a lot of complaints about people just getting disconnected with doing coop on things, or servers just dropping for no reason at all?

How good is the internet browser on it?

Even though im a pc gamer, i am really kinda stoked about getting this ps3... i like my 360 but in all honesty, miss having a playstation.

Thanks!
Sean

Great Games:
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Resistance 2
Little Big Planet
Valkyria Chronicles

Good Games:
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Warhawk

PSN Games:
Wipeout HD
Pixeljunk Monsters
Super Stardust HD
Flower
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty

The PS3 will see your PC if you set up a media server. This can be done using Windows Media Player or 3rd party software (Tversity is popular), you can stream files or copy them straight to the PS3s harddrive. Also you can use a HTTP server such as redkawa that will allow you to browse your PCs files using the PS3s web browser. You can obviously copy files onto any FAT32 formatted external drive and copy them onto the PS3 drive.

The PSN has always been fine in terms of connectivity imo. Its problems were a lack of games that used it well and a lack of people using voice chat. Games have improved (as you've probably seen in Killzone) and now that Sony has released an official headset (which i very much recommend) the voice chat situation is improving slightly. The PSN actually has some really good features, such as the fact that Sony host dedicated servers for many of their first party titles which allows for large servers (up to 64 player in resistance 2) with really good pings.

The internet browser is functional, BBC Iplayer and youtube work, these forums work, that's about all i've used. The PS3 is compatible with any USB/bluetooth keyboard and mouse so if you bought one it would make web browsing a more enjoyable experience.

I love my PS3, as do many others on here so i'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Get fifa! Can join our late night club games.. aswell as the new ultimate team exspansion. All good and fun. :)

PSN rarely lags for me, if it does.. it's normally down to my rubbish connection. :D

Internet browser is alright, in all honesty i haven't used it all that much. I'd stick to the pc for web browsing.

Well it can detect uPnP devices autimatically much like the 360 but it allows you to copy files to the internal hard disk. You can also copy files from a USB device too.

Uncharted and Little Big Planet are two of my top games for the PS3.

Try Killzone 2, uncharted, littlebigplanet, flower, warhawk, resistance games, ratchet and clank etc
Will the playstation see my pc over the network? so i can drop things like music and videos on to it? Yes media player 11 works fine, but there are some free apps like tversity and ps3media server that do a better job. If you ant to put files on a USB drive you can do that to to transer videos music etc.

Most Sony games have dedicated servers and are very good, like any network you will get occasional drops but that doesnt happen that often. Multiplatform games are not as reliable as sony ones though

It works and you can download files to your HDD if needed, its not great but like i said it works

I recently got a ps3 and it's bloody brilliant. The online is fantastic and it's free which i think is fantastic. Home is coming along nicely, it's got tons of great games...Heres what i have played so far that are awsome:

Kilzone 2 - Amazing online shooter, single players great too
Fifa 09 - Be a pro club, amazing, amazing, amazing.
Little big planet - A good relaxing game

I have Gran turismo 5 on the way which is online :D I am also getting metal gear, socom, resistance 2 at some point...PLUS you get all the multi platform games that are awsome, like cod4, vegas 2, etc...

PS3 = AWSOME.

Can a PS3 stream media from a mac?

It supports all media servers on windows, never tried mac but i don't see how media server software running on a mac would be any different. So if you can find media server software for your mac then odds are it'll work.

[EDIT] According to a quick google, 'TwonkyMedia' software works just fine in OSX with the PS3

Got my ps3... been playing mgs4... loving it! brings back some great mgs memories.

Can anyone tell give me a small description on how to use my ps3 as a media centre please :)?

Thanks!

Well you can either set up a windows media server and tell it to share your files over the network, or use 3rd party software like tversity that even transcodes files that aren't compatible with your PS3.

Finally you can use my solution, a hooge external harddrive formatted to FAT32, then stick all your series on there and plug it into your PS3 whenever you fancy watching something. Obviously FAT32 has file size limits to i typically break my high definition 'home movies' into 4gb chunks using MKV2VOB.

Oh, that's another thing, anything that isn't compatible with the PS3 can be transcoded very easily using MKV2VOB.

All the software i've listed is free :)

Just want to add to that wall of + points Youtube works via PS3 browser (it didn't always) but this is great if you wanna stream some music vids (or even songs) and can't be bothered searching your pc for them.
