So I want to set up some security in my place but I think I have demands that can't be met, so any advice would be HUGELY appreciated. This is really a hardware AND software question.

So what I WANT to do is set up a few web-cams just for when no one is home. The criteria might be impossible though.
So I want to do this with no visible cables, I want to be able to record it on my PC without moving it and I would prefer them to be hidden for obvious reasons.
Motion sensing would be a massive bonus for the obvious disk space saved.
Sound recording isn't required but wouldn't be unwelcomed.
If the cameras are easily moveable, that would be a huge bonus too.

So um, any advice? I have no idea where to start?

I've used ispy before and was very impressed. I only used a web cam with it so I could see whos coming to the door when awaiting for a delivery without actually being at the main pc. it works with IP Camera's as well and they sounds like the best bet for what you want. Otherwise ur looking at about £200-300 for 4 cameras and a DVR. But ispy will allow you to use the main PC as the DVR device

I was going to suggest Ispy and a few Tenvis IProbot3 cams. Although I am having a slight issue with frames dropping badly in Ispy but not in the normal software. The Tenvis cams are not too expensive and can work via wireless ok enough you just need to supply power.

inside you can do what ever you want. but if you filming friends and family(any one that not you) you legally have to put notices up, and have the cams NOT hidden

I would hazard a guess that, if he wants cameras inside his house, he wants them hidden so they do not distract from his decor.

Sorry the evidence has been thrown out of court as you did not tell the burglar they are being recorded.

But in terms of the whole camera is a deterrent. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it means you've got something worth taking. Recently in my little town someone decided to try and rob a home with a huge great big camera out side the front door.

Its not about robbers its about recorded the normal day to day ppl.
Its legal without notifying them, Workmen, children and so on is what i was referring to

Well thanks for the help so far guys. At the least the more optemistic people here aren't thinking I'm making a sex tape or something.

Main reason is I'm in rented accomodation and literally less than a minute walk away is the Estate Agent who have a key, and the Landlords have a key. My fiancee's engagement ring was recently stolen (we don't know if it was work or home) so we just want to be on the safe side. It is purely for security inside while it's unoccupied. Might end up building a decicated low profile computer for it sometime later.

I'll check out iSpy though and take a look at the Tenvis IProbot3.

Ah if its something this covert surveillance you need the IPRobot may be a bit big. You should be able to get some cheap bullet type/mini surveillance cams that just plug in and record to MicroSD Card which would be more discreet.. Good luck

If a burglar see's a camera the will more likely cover their faces. Destroy the camera, then find the recording equipment and trash that also.

Cheapest option is just change the barrel of the locks then nobody can get in without your permission.
