So I'm thinking of going CF4890... but what single GPU is equiv/better?

Thats easy right? 590! Obviously this is a budget question.

I bought my brother a 4890 and it doesn't perform as well as I'd expect so theres me being clever big brother, I'll get him another for CF and then I have a brainwave.. a single DX11 gpu will probably perform better.

I bought the 4890 for £48 so ideally I should be able to sell it for that, meaning I'd probably buy another for similar price.. so thats a budget of about £100.

I'm thinking maybe:

460 / 5870 / 6870 around about here, if I can get lucky enough and get a good second hand deal.

Would be used for BF3.

Thoughts?

None of these cards will match 4890 crossfire but they all have dx11 and the 6870 or 5870 wont be to far behind. They should offer up a smoother gaming experience than the cf 4890 and cause you less hastle in the heat, noise and power department.

The gtx460 is not fast enough to be considered unless you are willing to overclock it really hard.

The 5870 is the fastest card of the 3 but only get it over a 6870 if you can get one at a good price.

Yeah see I have a 5870 myself so I'm aware of its capabilities..

Looking over the MM for past sales, I think I can get one for £105 on average so maybe this is the route to go, unless there is another suggestion for a similar performing card.

I dont know if I'm doing this right but I'm mostly looking at the performance of BC2 with anandtech.

Looks like the 5850 would be a contender to if I found a good deal on that.

Either one of these three cards would be great for future, if it begins to really struggle then CF one of these would be much better than having CF4890s in the same situation.

Cool ty, 470 is a tiny bit under a 5870 and a 480 is a tiny bit over. Any such thing as a 474, I dont want him to have better ;)

The good thing about the 470 and 480 is they overclock really well. A gtx470 with a good overclock will probably end up a bit faster than a fully overclocked 5870. The gtx480 when overclocked is a good bit faster again easily reaching gtx580 speeds in a good card.

I doubt I could get a 480 for 100quid, a 470 would be really pushing it I think. Maybe one fully out of warranty but still..

You have a decent chance of getting a gtx470 for around that price as they were selling new for £150 not so long ago. I reckon a 5850 is a good bet though as not so long ago my mate sold 2 brand new on the bay for £105 each. One of them was a asus direct cu.
