So with FM2 + now here & no backwards compatibility.

Is FM2 Dead? or is there going to be some more CPU's released soon tm?

My Google foo is failing me as it looks like there's nothing.

If so is AMD drifting away from one off there main selling points, which was long socket life cycles & backwards compatibility.

Same with am3+ has AMD forsaken us :p

Will there be no last hurrah like with am2+

:)

As you can see from my sig, I am an Intel man. I still have a soft spot for AMD though. I build a lot of budget rigs for people and AMD regularly gets my vote in these situatons.

The fact that you can go in with a dirt cheap Phenom X4 and upgrade right through to a 9590 is a real boon if you are on limited funds. I think spending a little extra on a 990FX board gives you more power and upgrade potential than you could ever get with an Intel rig.

As ever though, this all depends on what you plan to use the system for.

As far as i know AMD have no plans to continue the FX line. When that means they'll start to phase it out is anyone's guess, but it is already hard to find certain AM3+ motherboards...

They don't really, in backwards compatibility, sure, but that's it

Erm...Wasn't that the specific point of the OP?

OP: AMD Backward copatability is one of their main selling points but they seem to be moving away from it.
Me: Yes, but at least they are still better than Intel on this front
You: Yes, but only in backward compatability

Did I misunderstood the point of your post?

Seemd to me like you were trying to shoot me down by agreeing with me, which confuses me.

Your post is very vague, how's anyone meant to draw anything context or real content from it :p?

As to me ;

No matter which way you look at it, they blow Intel away on this front.

Literally has no real anything to it.

Also, if you do look at OP, he's on about socket longevity (Which is where the real ignorance comes in really in general), AM3 was dismal, it had no exclusive CPU's, and didn't get its touted replacement to Phenom II.
AM3+ came and was this new "super future proof" socket, but it looks like AMD have killed it off (Which I actually have no problem with, it's had 2 CPU generations for it, performance withstanding) and then you get the FM's..... Well, Llano owners got pwned, FM2 was meant to be future proof, bang it's just lost Kaveri etc.

And then if we go further into your post about the Phenom II and AM3+ board, going upto an FX9590, it's only if you've got a good board, whereas 1155 H61 B3 launch owners could go from their entry level board at launch and whack in a 3770K if they wished.

Ok, that makes sense.

I don't mind people pointing out problems with my posts, I just like to understand them and I really didn't get what you were trying to say :)

I suspect FM2+ is going to have a rather short life too...
