So it's either SLI or Crossfire?

Hi. Will be getting an upgrade in the next few weeks but I'm probably going to stick with my existing graphics card until the DX10 cards come out.

Looking through the motherboards it seems you're tied into supporting either SLI OR Crossfire. I'm likely to go SLI when I get new GFX cards but I'm not sure whether I'll go NVIDIA or ATI. Seems like if I want to get a new MBoards I have to tie myself in now?

Is that the case? And does anyone have any advice :)

Thanks!

Well..

If Intel and Nvidia came to some kind of agreement then the 975X would support SLI. It already does through hacked drivers as the only thing that stops SLI from working is the drivers. Companies being bullish as they usually are this could be months off, if it ever happens.

Crossfire is slightly different animal, it requires hardware on the motherboard. So if you bought a SLI motherboard then it won't ever work with Crossfire.

You need to decide now really whether you are likely to go SLI or Crossfire long term. :(

Thanks

Cheers for the info. As I have no idea about which way I'll go for the next release I'll probably swing for a Crossfire then.

If it's capable of supporting SLI (albiet in the long term or via hacked driver) that seems a bit more future proof than the other way (which clearly will never work).

Thanks again!

In the long-term I'd really not worry about either.
In the same way thatg multi-core CPU's seems to be the way forward I think you'll find multi-GPU graphics cards are a more logical step.

I honestly don't see multiple graphics cards being the way of the future.
