... that came with my families first PC (a PII 350MHz) and plugged into the game port on the soundblaster in it. That card along with the rest of the machine has long gone, but the Joystick is still sitting gathering dust at my parents house. Is there some kind of adapter or cheap card I can buy to get it working with a modern system? Recent threads in the games forum about space sims have got me thinking.

Cheers,

For the time and effort I would just buy a new joystick. I cant say I've ever seen one of these adaptors, the only thing I could think of would be to buy and old sound card with a game port on.

Depends on the joystick as to whether its worth the trouble.

I decided it was for a sterring wheel/pedals which cost me £200 at the time. The nearest new replacement which doesn't need a gameport would cost me £125 so spending less than a tenner was worth it.

You can indeed buy gameport cards and you can buy joystick to usb adaptors although you have to be careful with them as some types of joystick do not work with the adaptors.

Or as said, a 2nd hand old soundcard is a cheap option. Just install drivers for the gameport.

Of course, if your old joystick can be bought for £10 new then not worth the hassle.
