Been to this Sony event down in Brummy Land this past weekend and thought after playing Killzone 3 that I should give the PS3 another whirl (not used it since LittleBigPlanet came out), so ran out (well, walked) and bought Killzone2 and Heavy Rain.

Started playing Killzone 2 - as you may have guessed from the title - and I'm in two minds about it at the moment! For atmosphere, it's ace. The opening intro is brilliant, reminding me of how good the voice acting/animations were in Heavenly Sword. The opening setting on the space ship in low orbit was also brilliant. But the Playstation controllers are just awful! I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but I'm using the Alternate 2 controller mode, and it's like some sort of Chinese Finger Trap when you're wanting to hide behind cover, use your iron sights and shoot some Helghast! The lag when trying to aim is also somewhat annoying, and makes Close Quarters Combat rather hit or miss (pardon the pun)! It's usually far easier to leg it up to them and melee, and I'm the sort of geek that self proclaims himself to be pretty special at shooters!

The art direction's a bit weird as well....... The ISA have supposedly mastered space travel, yet when they send the troops down on their little landing boats, they're completely unprotected and have to rely on either being around the main protagonist or integeral to the plot in order to successfully survive a landing :p

Still enjoying it don't get me wrong, and I've only finished the first mission so far, so looking forward to enjoying more of it :D

I had respect for the first, it properly pushed the PS2 to its limits and was without doubt one of the best lookers on the platform. I even really enjoyed the gameplay, just never got round to finishing it......

Am sure I'll give the Multiplayer a blast once I've finished the campaign. Don't really fancy jumping straight in at the deep end and getting my ass handed to me!

The aiming is "hard" because the recoil is more realistic than other shooters, which the noobs hate(d) :p

I appreciate the fact your post may be tongue in cheek, but the difficulty in aiming simply doesn't stem from recoil. Killzone doesn't do anything fancy with recoil. Granted it's not recoil-less like Modern Warfare, but I'm pretty sure the majority of FPS games are exactly the same. The problem in my opinion stems from the fact the PS3 is struggling to keep a high consistent frame rate, mixed with aiming lag. Not a canny mixture!

Exactly, I'm enjoying the game don't get me wrong, but I find it staggering that despite the fact so many people have the exact same complaint, people still turn around and say there's no problem. If you can't get used to the controls and ropey aiming the problem is yours, yours alone, and you don't deserve a place in the FPS community.

Reminds me of that Iraq minister :D

You say remove the aiming system..... Honestly - and I'm not being purposely awkward here - what is this system?
Iron Sights
Recoil
No autoaim

That's all the game has to offer as far as I can see having spent another 45 mins on it tonight. The things I don't like about it?
Horrific amounts of motion blur
Lag (imagine getting mouse lag on a PC game, it's identical, just thru a stick)
Awkward controls

I honestly can't see why you think there's some revolutionary game mechanic at work here in the background? And I feel I should reiterate again, I am enjoying this game! But the aiming is awful!

I don't think anyone has said they want the controls to be like Call of Duty, that's just a pretty knee-jerk reaction claiming that people do.......... What I personally want is to rid the game of it's struggling inconsistant framerate and stick-lag. Yes, it's not a twitch shooting game, and that's not how I would play it. Games like Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault don't allow for twitch shooting, but the aiming is still a hell of a lot better than KZ2. It's simply down to struggling frame rate and lag, not "weighted aiming". Besides, hold a keyboard out in front of you like a gun, and pretend to dart from target to target quickly - it's really not anywhere near as hard as some people are making it out to be, yet alone when you're as muscle-bound as the cast of KZ2 :D

More likely he has a different opinion of what perfectly smooth is compared to you. For me, perfectly smooth is Wipeout HD, whereas KZ2 is playable but not smooth. Just another one of those things where everyone will have a different opinion.

Hammer, meet head of nail. Not enough to put me off the game, but certainly to notice it, combined with the lag is just a tad annoying. But the game's biggest falling point seems to be the repetitive combat at the moment!
