So you are asking what software is available for Windows for a certain task in a Mac forum.

Bad call baby. Bad bad call.

well considering that the windows forum is full of people moaning "oh my pc has a virus" and a lot of people in here have a mac and a pc i thought this would be my best option

If you can afford it then Photoshop, I believe there is now something called Photoshop Elements, which is a slightly cut down version, and a lot cheaper.

I recommend using Picasa from google for archiving too. It makes searching for images very easy, and can do a lot of general image adjustments and retouching. Perhaps try that before splashing out on something like photoshop that may be more excessive than you need.

Photoshop is not something that can be used as a replacement for Apeture. Aperture is not a hardcore image editing app like photoshop is, Aperture is for people who take lots and lots of photos and then need to quickly sort through them and find the best ones (so generally it's meant for professional photographers). The PC equivalent of Aperture is Adobe's Lightroom (google for it)

Depends on what kind of complexity you are after. Lightroom would the direct equivalent of Aperture (except of course, it's a Beta at the moment, and I've heard the Windows Beta is not as good as the Mac beta).

If you need to do some extra pixel-editing, then the suggestion is to go for Adobe Photoshop Elements 4. As well as a cut-down (but still pretty powerful) editor tool, the Organiser component is pretty usuable. In fact, I quite like Elements 4 on Windows... before I switch to Mac.

Elements 4 can handle RAWs, but you can't batch process them.

Photography workflow and what software to use is a personal thing, there's plenty of choice on Windows. Best bet for tips and advice is probably the Photography & Video forum, not this one.

For the record I use Adobe Bridge for organising and ACR/Photoshop with some scripts and custom actions for processing on both PC and Mac. You can grab the trial to see if that floats your boat.

As above your best bet would probably be photoshop / PS elements. However, you could use GIMP or GIMPshop (the GIMP hacked to look like PS).

Personally, I use PS CS2 and I think it's great - it does everything Aperture does and piles more on top, it just doesn't look quite as good.
