Is there a brand/version which is particularly better than another? In terms of reliability, overclockability and performance?

Also, if you bought a card clocked at 600MHz core, is this card the same as one thats clocked at 650, with only the core clock increased?

The cards are pretty much the same, prices vary on the warrenty and whether it has been pre-overclocked.

Yes, it has just been pre-overclocked.

I would say that the GT would be fine at that resolution, excluding Crysis of course.

In terms of brands, I usually go for BFG these days since I have always found them to be reliable and returns seem to be a breeze with them. Also, if you aren't into overclocking, they pre-overclock a lot of their cards. See their 8800 GT cards here.

i just brought the cheapest one at the time (happened to be OcUK version) and its overclocked nicely, i game at 1680x1050 and its fine handles all my games at very high :)

Crysis is fine at that res. I've had an overclocked GT at that res and it scored a higher average fps than my GTX OC to Ultra. Also there is no particular brand to go for just plump for the cheapest possible and clock it's boot's off. Unless warranty matters to you and you plan to keep the card longer than a year?
