Hey all, I currently have a 670 in my system and while it still performs well in most games, it is stretched in the more graphics intensive games nowadays and it's starting to get a bit long in the tooth, the problem im facing is I know the 290x and 780Ti fight blow for blow, but what about the 290? would that be a significant upgrade over my 670, or what about the 780? is the Ti worth the money knowing Maxwell is possibly a year away (the ones that will even get near the Ti anyway) is the 290x? any guidance or just general recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you :)

Personally id go for the 290 or 780 depending on the features you need/want from each manufacturer. They pretty much trade blows with each other. Speaking from personal experience, i moved from sli 670's to a single gtx 780. Max fps are down a bit, but minimums and average are pretty much the same. Therefore you will see a nice difference over a single 670. The 3gb of vram on the 780 was another incentive for me as it will be that bit more future proof.

The 290x and 780ti are great cards, but the few fps extra they give comes at a pretty hefty price tag. What res are you currently playing at also.

Yeh i'll research the 290 and 780 a bit more now as that seems like the most sensible option, but hardware enthusiasts arent always a sensible bunch :D and I game at 1080p, with no intention to change any time soon to anything higher unless I have the most impulsive of impulse buys on a new monitor, but thats unlikely haha

I tried finding a 670 but couldnt find the one I was looking for :(
You can sli any two 670's, providing both have the same amount of vram. It is possible to sli a 2gb card with a 4gb one, but it needs a hack to work. For sli you will need at least a decent brand 700w psu to allow you to run both comfortably with the rest of your kit, particularly if overclocking. Heat can also be an issue with sli due to the cards being in close proximity to each other.
