So many flies this year!

Actually doing my head in.

Never known so many flies in a summer. There must have been at least 10 huge bluebottles flying round my house today and there’s been quite a few every single day. Been woken up countless times at night this week with one buzzing round the room. Not just me, the neighbours have noticed it too. I’ve cleaned my house bins thoroughly and we’ve done the wheelie bins kept at the side of the house but still inundated with flies. They all seem really big too.

Anyone else noticed an increase in the annoying little buggers this year?
 
Can't say I've noticed though I took the precaution of putting window netting up to keep anything like that out of my bedroom as little annoys me as much as a fly buzzing around as I'm trying to get to sleep.

Mind its the damn Hornets that spook me. They have to be an inch and a half long! :eek:

Where did they come from? I don't remember Hornets when I was younger.

The other day I was doing some bills in my office and my GF was behind me doing some filing. This bloody great Hornet came in through the window and flew past my face about 6" from my nose.

Cue Loud girly yelp and I was out of the room, closely followed by the GF.

She didn't know why at the time, but her Logic was (As explained to me later) that I am basically "Mr Cool", very little fazes me but if something has happened to cause me to give a loud yelp and run from the room, she had better just try to keep up and worry about the reason later! :p :D

Few years back I had the same problem....turned out I’d got a dead pigeon behind the fireplace
 
Bluebottles tend to like rotting meat, so if you have a problem with them, then that could be why

Seem to get them every few years around here - some of them closer to like 3 inches or so :s weirdly it seems on a like 10-11 year cycle I remember them around 2008-2009, 1998 or so, etc.
 
Its the little ones that fly around your light even though its not switched on, that do my head in. (That is in my ex girlfriends house.)

Blue bottles I can take out quick, but the is no flies in my gaff and I live on a park.

Keep the spiders happy then no flies. :D

Dont think I have ever seen a hornet in this country, until the other day. Kids shouting about a bug on the door, thought it was a big moth till I got closer, turned out to be the mother of all hornets. I assume it was a hornet, like a bloody super wasp!
