I am building a new HTPC.
Been using my current cases for years now, so have not been keeping up with the current range.

I need a case that is silent and has plenty of space for HDDs.
Can be a tower or desktop, don't mind which.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Any PC case can be used for a HTPC, it just depends if you're bothered with the look that it doesn't look like a piece of HT equipment, if you're not then just buy any case that's suitable, ideally right size (MATX or ATX) and suitable HD bays, case fans, layout, colour etc. For example I needed a MATX case that's black, space for one optical drive, two hard drives, but don't require VFD or built-in IR receiver. So picked up a Silverstone TJ-08;

That Armour or a Stacker will be excellent for a server, loads of bays, but they're not quiet, open designs with lots of vents so HD noise passes though them. Also loads of fans.

Thermaltake VE2000SWA Armour LCS Super Tower - Silver (CA-050-TT)

In my mind that isn't a HTPC case it's two in your face to blend in to a 'normal' living room. A simple test is anything that gets past the misses is probably acceptable I managed to get an Antec Aria past her but she is much keener on the style of something like Antec NSK2400 Desktop Case as it wouldn't look out of place next to the stereo!

It isn't going in the living room. The PC is in a different room, hidden from view.
So it doesn't have to look like consumer AV equipment.

I just want something that has plenty of space, and keeps thing cool quietly.

How many hard drives do you require? The Eclipse holds quite a few, but not as many as the CM Stacker or Thermaltake Armour (similar designs)

I would go for the full towers then. The Eclipse holds 5 on the front, but it has another bay around the CPU, that holds 3. From all accounts it's a bit naff though.

Sounds like you want a "server" not a "htpc" case anyway so change the thread title :p

Considered a full tower server PC with loads of drives in the space room, then a stripped down htpc with a small boot drive and tv tuner?

I couldn't accept gaming rig as a htpc in the same room, even though audio system is a bit louder than htpc noisefloor ;)
