Okay, it didn't go bang! But it is dead
The Story:
Casually gaming on GTA V last night when all of a sudden the lights started flickering. Around 30 seconds later the circuit breaker for all the upstairs wall sockets switched, along with a nasty noise "almost like something begin fried by electric" lasting around 3 seconds comes from the PSU. Similar noise to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5mmw9qphkE
I instantly unplugged the computer and re-switched the circuit breaker. I attempted to power on the power supply (paper clip trick) outside of the computer, but it appears dead!
Time for a new PSU: I've ordered the EVGA SuperNova G2 850W. Lets just hope all my other components are okay!
Now for the main reason I'm here... How do I prevent this happening again? Surge Protector? Mains Filter/Conditioner? UPS? I'm a software developer, electric isn't my thing!
Thank you in advance!
