Well its the same size as the dogs head, so we kinda thought it couldn't be a sheep.

It's a sheep skull, you should also be aware that if your dog is off the lead in a field where sheep are grazing (Specially this time of year when they are lambing) old Farmer Giles can quite legally shoot your dog.

Yeah we know about the scaring live stock law, he found this in a small stream coming off from a big lake.

Well we walked past about 70 of them, but obviously didnt get too close. But they look like they have small heads.

well you get different varieties, i just have an image in my head of the ones on our school farm, they are massive, almost like cows

But other than sheep it couldn't be anything else, its not a wild cat, wrong shape nose, too small for cow, also farmers tend to get rid of cow carcases, too big for a fox, has to be a sheep really, or another dogs, although i can't imagine your dog picking it up if it was!
