Hey guys,

I've just got my first mac. The macbook pro! :D

What programs can i user for torrents? azuerus looks pretty naff, the 3.0 new version.

Utorrent don't make a mac version :(

Also, do i need to run any anti virus software?

Should i bother installing firefox, or just get used to safari?

Alex

check out Transmission for torrents

No anti virus software needed, but if you want to protect your windows buddies try Clamavx

Try both and see which you like best.

I use Azureus but it seems to be getting worse for memory hogging recently! Transmission is good, but it doesn't seem to like finding seeds and peers.

I don't run any anti-virus

Depends what you use a web browser for - If you don't need the likes of firebug, developer toolbar and whatnot, then Firefox is the only one (with aronnax's themes), other than that, safari is great (if a little RAM hungry)

how do you do that? I just click advanced as soon as it opens, but if you can disable it, that would be great

Transmission is extremely lightweight and simple.

I dont use anti-virus personally, never felt the need. *Touches wood*

I use Safari, didnt use it in Tiger as it was pants but they really have given it a boost in Leopard. The web-clips is a good idea for Dashboard also. The only downside is that it can be a bit of memory whore but with a MBP you should be fine.

Welcome to the MBP Owner's club, black tie optional

  • Transmission - Lightweight torrent client, very easy to use
  • Safari - Easily the fastest and best looking web browser on OS X
  • I don't run Anti Virus (I never did on PCs either)

Plenty of "essential application" recommendations in the sticky that are worth look, including a choice of torrent clients.
