Contract is up for renewal in a few weeks and I'm wondering what o2s retention deals are like at the moment?

I know for a period they were being quite tight with there deals, have they improved again?

They were rubbish when I tried. Told them about the vodafone deals etc but they are just tight.

I had been with them for 9 years until last month. I told them I was after the Desire and they offered me nothing! No reason for me to stay when there are better deals elsewhere!

My mates girlfriend phoned up o2 and told them she was off expecting to get a good deal. But they basically said good bye to her and gave her the IMEI number.

Unfortunatly she caved and ended up forking out a large chunk of money for the SE xperia (without ever having heard of it) on the same contract she was on!

Got loads out of them recently on a business contract, but it was with 6 phones.. i wasnt getting anywhere for ages untill i asked for the PAC codes then they could not do enough.

i got a desire on 23 months for £30 pm, with the phone at only £20 and they put my minutes to 1000 and unlimited texts/data , they also threw in a bluetooth dongle.

so not amazing but better then expected.

Well it's upgrade time so I gave them a call just now, fully expecting to be leaving.

Asked what phones I was interested in so I gave them the Desire, X10, HD2.

Told them I didn't want to spend anymore than £25 per month and that I would need at least as many minutes as I currently have (400) and the handset for free.

Was straight away asked what kind of deals had I found so far, to which I replied 600mins, 500 texts and internet for £25 per month on t-mobile.

Guy on phone was quite helpful and explained straight away that he knew they couldn't budge on the Desire so had a look into the other two, seems HD2 is also a no go on deals at the moment with them but he managed to make a deal with the X10.

So I'll be having an X10 delivered for free, 500mins per month, unlimited texts, unlimited net and wifi (500mb I think) for £25 per month over 24 months.

Still a lil worse than what I could find online elsewhere but not bad considering what they offer on there own site and saves me the hassle of switching etc.

Just hope I like android now :p

But, 24 months!

Just...................no.

I'll be on the phone to Orange in the next month or 2. My contract expires then, I rang them a couple of weeks ago and offered me this. I didn't take it.

Desire for £100.
24 months @ £19.50
600 mins, unlimited sms, 500mb data.

If the phone was free I would have jumped at it, but will see if anything changes in the last week of my contract.

The phone should be free on a deal like that to be honest, what a stinker

yeah i thought so too. but due to the demand of the Desire they aren't in a rush to give it to people on contracts like mine. i am on dolphin 35, websaver of £5, and £10 loyalty discount brings it down. they also knocked off 50p when i signed up because i said i didn't want to pay over £20.

i asked if they could reduce my minutes/sms and get the phone for free but they were having none of it.

my contract is 18 months, but would have to increase it to 24.

I wanted 18months but everywhere I looked online you couldn't get any of those phones with 400+ mins £25 per month with no upfront cost.

Pretty rubbish deal, they've tied you in for 24 months with a phone that really was a bit of a disaster by all accounts.

I too get the feeling O2 have dropped their standards with loyal customers and don't really care. Being with O2/Cellnet for some 15-20 years, they used to have different 'VIP' accounts such as O2 Select for 'loyal' customers where you get discounted phones, accessories and early upgrades.
I think early upgrades seem standard nowadays but when I upgraded not long ago, it was no different to what a new customer would have been offered, so ended up choosing the lowest tariff and contract.
Needless to say, this will probably be the last upgrade with O2 for me, then I'll probably go elsewhere or the freedom of sim-free/PAYG...

Disaster, how so?

and not being able to upgrade for 6 months longer will not end the world for me, plus it has more minutes than my current discounted tariff plus data which I didn't have before.

I have two contracts with them currently, one for myself and the other is for a friend, annoyingly when I renew my number I get a crap deal, but when I renew other one I get something decent :p
