So, PlayStation+, who's in?

I've paid for live since it first became available in the UK, and in all those years I've never got anything from MS in terms of free software or content, and that's what I'd would like and PSN+ is giving that to me, even if it's just one full game a year/themes/dlc it's a lot more that I've ever got from MS and I'm more than happy to support it.

You didn't get Undertow for free? Or that rubbish Doritos game? Scraping the barrel, but they have given some stuff away.

I'm just worried that this could be the first small step to eventually following MS into charging for online play.

I know Sony have said that this won't effect the quality of the normal PSN, but they're hardly going to say anything else. Financial models change, and who's to say that a year down the line, if they have a good take up on PSN+ they announce that it is financially impractical to keep a free online service running.

I may just be being cynical, but if Sony feel that they can get away with charging for online services - they probably will. :(

If they do, I'd guess it won't be until the next gen.

I've just bought the 90 days sub for now. Next month's offerings will determine whether or not I continue my subscription.

The Doritos game was basically a playable advertisement and Undertow if I remember correctly was given to us for free because Live was playing up over the holiday period at the time.

I remember them both and both were ****. I think you're right about Undertow, I think it was something to do with all the additional Christmas Xbox's breaking Xbox Live.

I'll be onboard once I get back to the good old UK. when do I have to sign up before , to get wipeout and LMP for free?

Before the second month begins for Wipeout I think, the first month has only just began so you've got about 3 1/2 weeks. LBP is given as a bonus for buying 12 months subscription outright so I don't know if that's a permanent thing or only a temporary offer.

I'm also guess I can use the Classics and the Mini's on my PSP? If so then that's an even better deal for me. :)

This from a PSN advert that I get via Email.

"Sign up for a one year PlayStation Plus membership, on or before 3rd August 2010, and we’ll also give you a downloadable copy of the award-winning PS3 title LittleBigPlanet absolutely free*."

To be fair though, undertow wasn't given away for free because MS where being nice, it was given away for free because live was unusable for 2 weeks over Christmas one year.

More like two days really...

You have to remember if it's MS Jumpers automatically makes it sounds worse than it is.

And to lowrider007 if you're a Gold member you do get big discounts off XBLA titles every week, much like on Steam. Last week I picked up Trials 33% off and I've had many many titles half price now. Oh, and should I drop to Silver at any point I get to keep them... ;)

Anyway, I've already bought LBP (as have most) and I'm actually not a big fan of wipeout so only real reason I'd be interested in PSN+ atm is for patching. Though in truth my 360 covers that. I got Killzone 2 this morning and while it did it's 100MB patch and install I played Lips for 30 minutes (that patched too btw... about 6 seconds).

Lips and Killzone 2. That everlasting comparsion. :D

The speed at which updates are applied on the PS3 compared to the 360 are poles apart. PS3 seems very slow when applying patches or having to wait for it to install a game you've just downloaded when compared to the 360.

Although comparing Lips with KZ2 is rather, amusing. :D

As you do with PSN+, if you purchase items from the store at the reduced PSN+ price you get to keep them even if you dont renew your sub.
Regarding patches MS have a max size limit of 4MB for a patch the rest is classed as a game update, PSN has no such limit so patches/updates are always classed the same, this causes the problem (or not).
Also wasnt the XBL problem for at least a week for most? Some longer, some shorter, quite sure it was at least till the 2nd week of Jan for my flat mates 360.

It wasn't really, it was boxing day till into January, a week minimum.

Well I remember the time well and I didn't experience any downtime other than on Christmas and Boxing day personally, and even then it was just a bit slow and intermittent at worst. I felt that getting Undertow for my "troubles" was pretty damn good.
