I haven't opened my pc up for weeks. My current 920 will do 4Ghz but needs over 1.4v and won't go higher. Its only sat at 3Ghz at the moment as I was playing around and never clocked it back up again.

With the D0 stepping now only £225 from OcUK with free shipping should I go for it?

Having 4Ghz+ at low volts does sound good, but then I'm not really going to gain anything in real terms.

Am I crazy spending money for nothing or should I extend the e-peen a few mm?

I know quite a few people get rid off their c0's for a d0

Whether it's worth it is completely up to you ;)

Depends whether you will ever be happy with your c0, won't be no slouch still

That's my problem, I always want the latest stuff.

The thing that's putting my off is people seem to struggle to shift their old C0 stepping. Mine is a pretty good clocker and it's retail.

Might go list it now and if I get interest I could have my D0 by tomorrow and post my C0 on Saturday.

Don't bother. An extra 100 or 200MHz will make no noticeable difference and it has been proven D0's use more power at equal voltage and create more heat than C0 chips.

D0's operate at lower voltage but draw more current. C0's require higher voltages but draw less current. At similar speeds (4GHz) they will have roughly the same power and heat dissipation requirements.

..so the only reason to jump from C0 to D0 is the extra overclock, which on average is not very much.

Unless you sleep easier at night knowing your processor is running at lower voltage :)
I believe at the same speed D0's draw more power, but that's hard to gauge as the comparisons were generally done with the chips running as fast as possible, which does tend to be faster with D0.

I vote don't upgrade. If your cooling is decent, thrash the hell out of your current chip until it runs into the ground. Then get a D0 in a year or so when it's starting to lose it's overclocking ability. Not financially sensible as the resale value would be minimal, but more fun

I'm not up for abusing my current chip to be honest, not put more than about 1.425 into it.

What about the e-peen???

Power draw doesn't bother me.

Still pondering.

D0 or upgrade my 1333 ram to 1600 Patriot?

it's up to you really but you have to bare in mind that the D0 chips take less v's but looking around the web and mine included run a little bit hotter than the C0 at the same speed under full load.

I have to say, I am extremely happy with my D0 i920 now, although it took me almost 2 weeks trying to find stable settings for my rig, but now it is solid as a rock...

I have managed to boot into Windows @ 4GHz using 1.26v I think it was, but my current cooler is really poor at cooling this processor, so the highest I will keep it for just now is 3.5GHz.. Even then the temps reach 75c when running Prime95...

I don t have any experience with C0 i920's so I can't comment on those...

I reckon you've done the right thing there m8, if you can get good interest and then good money for yours then the swap shouldn't cost much at all. Otherwise stick with what you have and buy more SSD's instead lol!! :)

D0s are really good ;)

im still testing but i have got a fully stable 4.0 easy with HT enabled at only 1.3v ;)
im finding it hard though at the minute to get 4.2 with HT on. HT off is easy :P

but HT on is doing my nut in but i will get there... i think i have a board limitation somewhere lol

I was suffering from the same demons.. and I listed mine this morning too.

I'm really not sure what to do.. I have it sat here at 3.9Ghz.. not HT but temps of High 60s at full load.

:S

As a side note.. I've found that HT creates 10c more heat under full load.. and given the GFlops in LinX it actually slows the processor down.

Dunno if this is right.. but this is how it seems.

Unless you are willing to take more of a hit then who is going to pay 180 for a C0 920 when they can get a D0 for 38 quid more!:p

People in MM are not daft lol

Yea but you have to put it in higher than you want else people just offer way lower.

I wouldn't let it go for as low as you got yours unless it was a bad clocker. Mine isn't far off a D0 really.
