Sorry, the thread is a bit late, I've been occupied with this thing..and also missing £302 from my wallet :O

The moment you pick up the stand you know it's got quality - heavy, sturdy...and my dad standing by the doorway oogling (I later saw him adjusting the colour on his Samsung 940BW hehe).

Anyway, I'll keep this brief but detailed, I think the pics do the rest of the talking :) - Any questions or requests just ask :-D

Addition*
The panel Dell sent me is an S-IPS Rev A02

Build Quality
I have to say this is superb, compared to my 2 previous TFT screens and the Samsung 940BW downstairs as well as the Sony TFT in the playroom this is very nicely built, my dads old Dell PC has a 15" Dell TFT which had similar build qualities too - Dell wins here.

OSD
The OSD is nice, I got to grips with it very quickly, it provides a fair amount of control from colour to PiP sources and whatnot. Lots to sift through. It's also movable and transparent so looks nice and does not distract.

Default Brightness / Colour
This is where I was most surprised, the default brightness is at 50, there is no contrast setting when using DVI and the colour mode (once reset) was at "PC Normal" - I found these settings to be instantly usable and photos were immediately more "real" compared to the other screens I have seen the same photos on. The screen is bright yet not too bright, details are clear and using windows in general is neutral and easy on the eyes - it reminds me allot of my friends NEC 20WGX2 except minus the opticlear coating.

I used only the desktop profile mode in the OSD as I am not a fan of "special" modes.

Performance
I briefly fired up some trailers and the BBC HD-Showreel was just ...wow... I also played the new Casino Royale trailer windowed and full screen - again no bad things here.

Viewing angles were also very good, if you look at it form a above diagonal angle there is some colour shift, well not like TN panels but hard to describe, can I call it the "IPS effect" ? hehe. I doubt anyone watches movies diagonally anyway so it's a non issue this :)

One thing during video playback to note though, the IPS panel "twinkling" is noticeable if you look for it, otherwise you are too busy enjoying what you are watching.

I also played some HL2 and was equally impressed, blacks were black and dark areas were very dark (Ravenholm for example) just how they should be but not so dark that you can't see anything!

Pixel Mapping / Aspect ratios
This worked perfectly, you do have to set it each time you load a low res game though but I don't play anything below native res so it's not an issue.

Picture in Picture
I hooked up my DV camcorder to the Composite in socket to see what the quality was like and to test out PiP - Composite is ass quality compared to svideo but it showed PiP works well and just as you'd expect.

Backlight Bleed
There is no visible backlight bleeding, the screen seems to be uniform throughout, perhaps the lower right area is a "little" darker than the rest of the screen space but you won't notice it unless you look for it.

Finally
PICS!

You can have 2x A4 pages side by side on a 20" widescreen easily but a 4:3 one not so easy, the extra wide angle makes up for the slightly smaller vertical res imo :)

When you are sat in front of it playing a game or watching a movie it is big :) in fact even browsing the net it's big, these forums for example , maximise the window and you could easily get lost in the vast widerness (kek!)

As for ghosting, absolutely none at all. I beleive I read somewhere that Dell have always been modest in their response time figures andthis dell performs the same/better than the response of my previous 5ms Hyundai widescreen and my dads 6ms Samsung 940BW.

I love it :D

this is now my most prized posession.

Dell are awesome !
Just a nice update :D
I got a Call from "Raveena" from Dell just now on my mobile about the issue of the courier that dropped the box after getting it off the van onto the concrete - I emailed Dell yesterday about it and they responded back this morning asking me to tell them if anything was faulty - I replied back that everything was AOK (not a single scratch, box wasn't even damaged either) but it could have been much worse especially considering the value of the goods!

Well the lady called to say that they fully understand the situation and that they are going to contact their courier management to take it further. On top of this Dell are refunding me £30 as compensation for any bad feelings about of the incident.

So, all in all, not only did I save £50+ by buying from Dells online offer but also saved a further £30.

2007WFP for £272 = f.t.w++

Most definately will be using Dell monitors from now on around the home when the need for a new display comes up :)

Awesome customer service.

Thank you very much for your helpful reply to my earlier post :)

I was wondering if you could also do some pictures of games/apps running at 1280x1024 similar to the ones that you have done at 1024x768 as 1280x1024 is at the graphical limit of my current system.

This certainly looks like a wonderful piece of kit, and i'm very tempted to get one myself!

Many thanks

Spudgun

They look (aspect wise) exactly the same as they would on 4:3 monitor mate, pretty much how you saw the 1024 ones that's how they'd look but obviously at a bigger resolution :)

Strange though, I see almost no FPS hit in CS:S stress test at 1680x1050 - looks like those who said the 7800GS is very scalable were correct :D

Ok, I was bored so thought what the hell, I've now updated the game pics with 1280x1024 ones :D

Also some better angle pics to show what angle colour shift is like (non existant :))

One final question (honest), do you get the problems of colour banding when using DVI mode mentioned in thsis very long thread on dell's support forums?

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfo...essage.id=54714&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

I will have pics tonight but in brief, no banding issues on mine :)

As for the backlight, I wouldn't say it was backlight bleeding but more S-IPS "twinkling" effect you see when watching dark movies, the twinkle is noticeable on certain angles only though and the lower view you position yourself the more it goes away, it's not a distraction though and certainly not something to worry about, just a slight observation I saw when watching movies etc.

I just came back form my lunch, went into (an office supply store) and had a look at the 21" Gateway which I was "this" sclose to buying, I went to the store 1 week ago, ready to buy but it was out of stock! I am so glad I didn't buy it now, the gateway is no way near as good in terms of built quality and the gateway stand felt very poor by comparison.

The size was nice though, 21 inches! but the stand once agian let it down, the screen wobbles! also when you rotate the Gateway it's notperfectly sraight, it's slightly wonky!

:D

Also, if anyone is really confused about response times (I know Baddass explained various times too :)) on the S-IPS 2007WFP then this will clear things up nicely.

Here's the LPL specsheet in PDF format - http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/j...Philips_LCD.PDF (33MB)

And here's a screenshot of the section in question

I had to do this as someone on FM boards thought I was lying when I said it was 8ms because their "friend" who works for apple told him it wasn't

Buy from Dell Direct if you want a new one guaranteed :D

Also, looks like they are now making them on order! no wonder the track status page said "in production" for 2 days!

Checking the dell boards reveals others also had theirs made to order!

Thought I'd check the date on mine too
