I've just got the notification for it on windows update despite the fact that on my windows 7 build I have un-installed IE and I use Iron.

I presume I don't need this update or is it also patching something within windows as well so I need it regardless?

I'd like to hide it and not install it but I thought I'd check first :)

Thanks

It might update some of the dependencies, I'm sure someone could give you a more detailed explanation. I'd install it - it's not likely to do any harm and if it's not needed the system will discard it anyway.

whats with the love of uninstalling IE and pretending that you don't need critical MS updates? Internet Explorer is integrated into windows explorer, you can't get rid of it. you'll want the update at any rate.

I'm not pretending anything, that's why I'm asking.

I never ever use the browser so I did what I do with EVERY program I don't ever use and uninstalled it.

It's not a difficult concept to understand.

If windows update says you need the update then you need the update. Turning off IE8 through programs and features just removes access to the IE program, the rendering engine will always be present because it's needed for compatibility, and it's the rendering engine that has the flaw that the update is fixing.

You can't "remove" IE. Only hide it. But yes, given that the expolorer process can trigger web activity from any window, you'll probably want it.
