I also met him a while ago (crikey 7 years 
). The magazine did a photo shoot for the then new Focus at Cardington Hangars where I was working at the time. Like you I found him to be really friendly, down to earth and genuine. My colleage there is a MKI/II Escort addict and had a Mexico in the hangar which Hammond was really interested in. He even thought he'd try to get it in the mag as part of the article, sort of a how things have come along angle, but in the end the editor decided it wasn't appropriate as it was a feature on 'standard' cars, but his mexico was a sport variant. Still, top chap though .
