About this lot for a new Core i7 upgrade?

Mobo: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
CPU: Core i7 920 OEM
RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler: Noctua SE1366 NH-U12P

These are replacing the parts that are currently being used in my gaming machine:

Mobo: ASUS P5Q-E
CPU: Intel Q6600 (G0)
RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 RAM
Cooler: Arctic Cooling Extreme Cooler

I will still be using the XFX 4870 X2 GPU cos really I dont need to change that for a long time to come :D

So let me know your thoughts. That is the final lot I am going for cos it has taken me a good month to think all this through after reading lots of posts on here about what others have been using and were thinking of getting. Thank you :D

Lol...I just realised where I posted this...if the mods want to move it to General Hardware then that would be most appreciated :D thanks...

Why change from your current rig, you have a very good setup to start with, nice overclock on the q6600 (extremely easy on a p5q) i7 isnt gonna offer you much more from a gaming point of view, maybe if you do a lot of video encoding, i7 would be nice, but your current rig with the 4870x2 is a very good machine, (wish i had it) perhaps keep it a while and maybe wait to i7 becomes more mainstream.

I can understand and see your point fellas. However, I have 4 other machines at home. And one of them is getting the Q6600 set up (as its currently an AMD X2 6000+ set up) and I dont want to use that for making my videos for youtube anymore.

Plus I have recently had a windfall and I thought now would be a good time to get the i7 rather than do what I normally do when I want to upgrade: buy each part one month at a time. This way I can get what I can and not have to worry about upgrading for a long time to come.

The Q6600 will be more than enough for video encoding and the like. To be honest its not about seeing the difference between games, its more about knowing I can get the i7 lot right now than wait another 6mths to get them.

Plus, I am also buying a brand new HD camcorder (currently using a webcam for making videos), so I know the Q6600 will help a great deal with this.

I thank you in your inputs guys. I do appreciate it. :)

Like it, sweet, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Any reason for the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 over one of the slightly cheaper ASUS offerings?

I was wondering when someone was going to pick up on that lol. I had previously gone for the P6T SE version (cheap as chips from another site), but I thought to myself that I want a machine that I know will last me a long time and the SE version of the P6T may not be that good of an overclocker, whereas the Deluxe V2 will certainly be a very decent overclocker. Plus I am not restricted on the budget either...so why the hell not eh? lol :D

I don't think that you can absolutely say that it will guarantee a better overclock. I'd say you should look more into the batch# of the CPU. But then again, that doesn't guarantee much either. Just cross your fingers and pray to Vishnu!! Good luck.

lol...that's all I can do I guess...I have been lucky in getting the G0 stepping of the Q6600 and it has done me wonders...so let's see how the 920 can do...if its either a C0 or D0...we'll see...they say its a mixture of CPU and Mobo...so u never know :D
