Tried it on my 290Xs and it would not even run so I fired up my ancient Titans and this is what I got.

I was getting between 40fps and 45fps which was quite playable as there was no dips to really low fps.

Below is the settings used, this is the closest I have seem the Titans come to running out of VRAM.

I think this kills off any notion that 4gb cards are suitable for 4K with max settings.

That's true for the results but they do say this.

So they did manage to run it on the 290x crossfire system just not great due to memory.

On max settings it won't even load without a shedload of glitches on the 290Xs and if you get as far as the game it is totally unplayable with 3fps max and 0fps min.

If you have a VRAM shortage no amount of overclocking will make the slightest bit of difference as overclocking can not magic up physical memory.

Yea i know this and they were not using Msaa. Personally i don't think 40-45 fps is good enough in this type of game due to the driving. I would drop it down to 4xaa where you would still need over 4gb i would imagine.

40 to 45 fps is actually quite nice on the Titans at that resolution, they don't tend to dip below 40 fps either.

Having said that when NVidia launch the GTX 880, if it has a 256bit bus on it then anyone buying several for 4K may as well throw them in the bin.

The Titans perform well @4K because of their 6gb of VRAM but they would perform significantly better if they had a 512bit bus. It must be costing them about 10% to 15% lost performance having to make do with a 384bit bus @4K.

I guess its in the eye of the beholder, personally i think Crysis 3 is still the best looking game ever, people have disagreed with me on that, so i guess it depends one your own perception.

Looks fantastic @4K with 8XMSAA.:p

With 4 cards if you can use those settings you should as it flattens out the fps @4K a bit like Mantle does in other things.

I would be interested to see what the 8GB 290x's would be like when running 4k. I haven't found any multiple card benchmarks with them though.

The most you will get with them is a 2 way setup as their coolers make it difficult to use more.

MjFrosty has some of these cards and will be able to give a better answer than me.

@ kaapstad

I tried 4k watch dogs with no AA and with 3 titan blacks in sli it is unplayable, stuttering mess even now with all over the place fps, yet if i drop to using 2 blacks it runs much smoother but still not perfect, but playable for sure. The best performance for hardly any stutter and frame drops is with just 1 black. My question being how did you manage 4 titans to run at a consistent type of frame rate in sli. To me the sli profile seems the major issue. If i alter it to another profile it can run at 60fps but the graphics etc flicker and the physics on foliage goes spazzy but it indicates that perhaps a better profile would solve how well it ran.

Quad SLI often works a lot better than people realise.
All 4 cards were running an overclock as well.
I was using the latest whql drivers.
On X79 RIVE with 3930k @4.0
NVidia PCI-E 3.0 hack.

What platform are you using as this can cause problems with more than two cards.

Asus Rampage IV black edition with 4930k @ 4.4
Set to PCI-E 3.0 in bios. Gpu's at x16 x8 x16 slots
32gb ram at 2133mhz
Windows 8.1

Watch dogs is the latest version with the latest WHQL nvidia drivers. When i monitor gpu usage it is spiking up and down all over. I wish it ran like crysis 3 i get in the 90's usage on all three gpus. Even other ubi games like Assassin's creed iv run fine with 3 gpus.

You can see my GPU usage on all 4 cards in this pic, it is not spiking all over the place though.

What is different is I am using Win 7
And Dom Platinum 16gb 9-11-11 2400mhz not that these should make any difference.

Kaaps a little off topic but i'm considering moving to 4K at the end of the month, i don't suppose you could show me some screenshots Arma 3 @4k if you have it?

Just wondering how it'll look tbh.

Slight change of plan, I have seen a review of a couple of 295X2s on Tom's hardware benching ARMA 3, all they managed was about 80 fps @4K.

I am downloading it now I am sure I can beats Tom's figure.:D

I will post some screenshots later.
