Way back i used to crunch seti for ocuk, my last wu was crunched in july 2004. iirc i stopped because of uni or something, not sure exactly. Anyway, as i understand it ocuk finished top of the teams for seti classic. What has happened since then? Where do we stand in the boinc ratings or is it all folding now?

I've started folding but i find the software very basic. With seti there were programmes to queue work units for when the server was busy. I don't think folding even allows you to queue one unit does it?

Yes... with FAH if you cant send a WU it will queue up to 10 units, and will try and send them every now and again... have you tried to use FAHMON?

Yeah, it crashes now and again and doesn't say if units are queued. Also i'm not really sure what ppd means. My faster machine seems to have a lower rating than the slower one

I think it's probably fair to say that most people here have dropped off boinc after the end of the original SETI, although there are still a few about. Most people are definitely now folding.

You can bulk download units, but there isn't any point unless the PC isn't on the internet to get new work. I'm not even sure if there are any deadlineless work units about at the moment. The option is available when you use the -config or -configonly flag when setting up the client. Look in the guide if you're interested, but I would advise against it really, as the deadlineless work units have a lower score than normal ones.

Are you using the latest version of FahMon? The older versions crashed sometimes, but I haven't had any trouble with the new one at all. PPD is 'points per day'. Each work unit is assigned a score and the speed that the PC gets through it determines the PPD for that WU. You'll see a PPD for individual WUs and then a total PPD in the new FahMon (if you're running more than one client). The PPD of each machine depends largely on the speed of the WU it's crunching, therefore, and the fastest machine might not always get the best PPD.

Basically a lot of people working on different projects - which is great for diversity and choice but a bit crap for laying the smackdown on ze germans (again :p)

I think it's fair to say that the majority of active posters here are doing Folding though there is definately a strong BOINC user base out there flying the OcUK flag still

Welcome back to the dungins :D

Welcome :)

It's not really possible to queue non-crunched WUs. Fortunately the Stanford servers are generally vastly more reliable than Berkeley!
