ok, so motherboard is mounted correctly, as is the cpu and its fan. nothing else connected now, plug in the 24pin atx connector to mobo, turn on, whirrs up for a spilt second and goes off. grrrr :mad:

You got memory slotted in? You don't need harddrive or a DVD rom connected to see if it all powers up

sure ive seen this in the past on a asus board cant remember which one turned out to be power supply even though it was brand new .

yea memory is in, and in correct slots and all standoffs in place. gonna take it all out and start again just to be sure. strangely when it goes off it tries to again a few seconds later even with the power turned off at the back??

nooo its both! (OCUKers, correct me if im wrong) the 24pin powers the mobo and the 2x4 pin is for the cpu. You need both plugged in to start the PC!
